Auto detailing and appearance

Ok guys, i'm not really one to bitch, but why is it that the auto detailing and appearance boards seem more like a junk yard. Not really many posts on "how i did this" or "How i make my car look good", but more like "check out this burnout" or "i got in a hit and run". I mean it just seems like theres more trash than useful posts. just my 2 cents.

I'm one of the three moderators there, and I tend to agree with you. We have tried to be somewhat lenient about it so members don't feel over-moderated. Lately though, it has been getting slightly out of hand.

The best thing you can do is, if you see a thread that looks out of place in the forum (or in any forum), click the "Report this post" link next to the first post. This will email all the moderators of that forum. It helps a ton when members do this.

Well now that you mention it yes there is alot of that...but i think that anything that involves pictures (appereance) is posted there. I personally think that while a few of the topics are junk, the majority of them are fine. I think anything that has to do with appereance is A-OK. I think if you moderated so strictly as for people only to post about detailing and 'how to do this apperance mod' the secton would become dead. Auto detailing and apperance is my favorite section, so please dont crack down real heavy.

As CaysE said, we try not to be too hard.

I agree with you though. If it were up to me, most of it would be gone. But last time we did that, people started crying.

While we're on the topic of the D&A board:

Kill off about 8 of the stickys. There's one "Announcement" and NINE "Important/Useful" stickys. There's so many stickys that no one notices when there's a new one because everyone just skips over them anyway (which totally defeats their purpose).

IMO, most of that stuff is redundant or belongs somewhere else entirely. Here's my suggestions (take them for what they're worth):

(1) Board Guidelines- Totally needed and a good example of what a sticky should be.

(2) FBody Videos- Instead of a sticky, why not put this on the front page. It would be nice to have something useful on the front page instead of "Hemmings has picked a car." Plus, everyone who visits the site (not just the D&A board) would see it.

(3) Attn All board users- Basically a re-hash of (1). The people who need to read this sticky don't read stickys anyway. Kill it.

(4) Rex Orr - 10% off ASCD hoods- ASCD has a regular ad at the top of the page like Spohn, Hawks, etc. Why do they need a sticky too? If anything, put it on the front page for all to see.

(5) 2009 Camaro - Front page. Although, anyone who posts about it just doesn't understand the intent of the board anyway.

(6) Map your location - Front page. Look, now we have (4) new things to look at on the front page... and I'll bet they get more hits than they do now.

(7) Polishing Taillights - It's a tech article. Post it with the tech articles.

(8) Before you ask if your wheels/tires fit - I see a lot of these questions in D&A so I understand the need for this sticky. But if there weren't 2087 other stickys at the top, maybe people would read this one.

(9) Send pics for omnipotentgoku's gallery - Another candidate for the front page... or better yet... put omnipotentgoku in charge of readers rides and let's get that going again.

(10) Polishing wheels - This one's not a tech article, but points out where the tech articles are located. I understand the relevance of this sticky, but it's a single sandbag in a flood of redundancy. What I'm saying is that there are many questions asked over and over about the same topics. You can't have a sticky for all of them, so why have one for this particular topic?

There you go. I got it down to 2 stickys. Now you can all tell me how wrong I am.

I agree, a lot of that would be good on the main page. But we are not able to do that, and some people don't use the main page, they just link right to the boards. My opinions-

1- Needs to be updated

2- Would be great to have a movies section, but we can't do that as moderators. So its a sticky because people are too lazy to search.

3- Its there because it emphasizes some of the rules people know, but still blatantly ignore anyway.

4- Doesn't belong

5- It will be down once the whole '09 Camaro thing clears.

6- Doesn't belong, but it’s us having to be lenient so people don't cry.

7- It’s a tech article, but again, as moderators we cannot edit the website.

8- Not going anywhere, people think the A&D board is the place to post ANYTHING.

9- I agree it should be on the front page, but you know why it’s not by now. It was done to try to eliminate the tons of people who post "Lets see your Camaro" thread. But people still post that crap, and it stays because we have to be lenient

10- Its for people who are too lazy to search. When I posted it, there were polishing questions asked three times per day. It has definitely helped with that.

But I appreciate the feedback, I wish there was more we could do (like updating the website).

As in a lounge?

Not gonna happen.

People seem to think thats what the A&D Board is, and unfortunately since people whine, we have to go kinda easy on modding it.

I use the lounge at www.3rdgen.org. I'm sure a lot of people here don't know where to go for off-topic discussions...

There should be another sticky telling them.
