What exactly do you mean by:
I do not expect to be sent to a an advertisement with another link to the thread
Are you seeing something like this:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/prob...50-new-ad.html

If so, you can read that Dave (who handles the Adverts) has not installed such an Ad.

As well, I have yet to see this type of Ad with the amount of time I've been on TGO.

Dave may have more comments and may look into it since a few people have noticed such. All I can go by, in this case, is what Dave has stated, which is that he has not installed such an Ad.

I have never seen this type of ad myself on TGO.

here at work and at home I have not come across this style of advertising here on thirdgen, nor have I been informed that I should or would want to use this type of advertising.

But yes I have come across it on other sites, after i ran spy-bot and ad aware i no longer have this problem.

It has happened to me once (from work), while here on TGO.

FWIW, I use a MAC both at work and at home. OS X Panther and using Firefox for my browser. We also have a pretty good firewall system at work.

This leads me to believe there is some bug tied into the site somehow.

Every now and then, I will have some site attempt to place a "cookie" on my computer while perusing posts on TGO. The problem comes from links from member or the sites they use to post pictures etc. Normally, I am setup to not accept cookies and when I MUST accept a cookie (such as for TGO) I only accept 1st party cookies, never 3rd party.

But, sometimes these links/sites are able to get past my browser setting and attempt to place a cookie regardless. And sometimes, they are PERSISTENT/INSISTENT and will not stop trying to ram their cookie down my throat. At that point, I am forced to close my web browers and start over; or it will just keep insisting that I take their cookie (which I will not).

From now on, I will note the post which is trying to place the cookie and inform JT about it to see if we can identify the site/link/member that is causing this.

I went there and then did a spy-ware check, nothing came up. But it may be that my anti-spyware programs are doing their job.

As stated before we do not and are not planning to run ads that display an entirely new window or redirect your browser to another page. Our goal is to still have a functional site and take advantage of white space on the page.

Header, columns, and integrated into key areas of content.
We find those other style ads to be just as annoying as everyone else.
