Book Reviews Sub board under History board
Although I really do not want another board to moderate I was thinking it might be appropriate to have either a sub board under the History / Restoration section where people could review Books. The history board kind of has this now but a place where books can be individually reviewed by members might be helpful.

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
Just for history books, or books in general?
Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
I had assumed for History books, and possibly technical repair type books. Books in general obviously would likely not be OK'ed since we're strictly a 3rd Gen F-Body website.
John, is there really enough material, and activity, to justify a new (sub)forum? I'm not so sure there exactly is? The other possibility is we might be able to, instead, have an online article?

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
Books on third Gens period, or books that include 3rd gens. Not the mystery of cape cod where the main character drove his 1987 Camaro Z28 to the grave yard to find evidence of a missing person... Thats not what I had in mind. History books...
Really I thought about that too JT, Personally I have 11 books on the Camaro alone, and 16 books on the Firebird, not including the Parts manuals, and the Haines repair types of books.
Really what I was thinking of a place where a book could be reviewed and not lost in the history section... For example there is a new Camaro book that just came out "Camaro fourty years" I was going to do a review of my thoughts but I decided not to because I thought it would eventually get lost.
Really it was an idea that poped into my head I thought I would share, possibly it will spawn some other idea like a special page off the main page with Book reviews...

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
There are a lot of engine-, transmission-, carb-, or whatever-related books that aren't thirdgen specific that it might be useful to have somewhere to review. A sub-board under "Aftermarket Product Review" seems like it would make more sense to me instead of under "History/Restoration".
Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
I can just see the thread on "Mistakes and Contradictions of the Camaro White Book"
It seems like a "waste" of a Subforum, it needs to be more of a wiki....

Considering 99% of the traffic on the board consists of the same old questions all the time, sometimes I think this whole thing should be a wiki.

I am still learning... or relearning what I have forgotten...
Its amazing to me that every now and then something really is a key to the whole thing... Like recently I discovered that it was possible to get a 1987 GTA with a 350, T-tops and some other options that were not suposed to be according to Pontiac. Turns out it was only available as an Export (typically Canada) and people would bring the cars back into the US...
Its not all old stuff just most of it. Heck it better than watching wood rot.

With the recent changes maybe we can get a wiki set up for some stuff. I would think there is some sort of wiki add-in for vBulletin...

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
I agree, personally the H&R board is my favorite board to read. I love learning about the History of the cars and oddly I get very excited when a new Theory (such as the whole 350 t-tops/CAFE thing) is even just brought forward.

I just don't think there is enough to warrant a subforum.
I'll keep this situation in mind when browsing around and maybe we'll find something.
Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
You may remember this, but we did have a wiki located offsite. I don't think it did all that well, probably partly because it was offsite and not advertised.

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
don't mean to butt into the big boy talk(respect) but someone brought up maybe doing an online article. I've seen refrences to tgo in some mags(camaro performers) that should be reviewed, rebutted, argued....I think it could generate more interest and start people like me and others talking. thank you.

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
One thing that concerns me is that we do not go overboard with "They got this wrong and that wrong" but have a good balance. What got me going was they indicated that in 1987 you could get a 350 convertible but without AC... which is news to most of us.

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
It seems like a good idea to keep all the literature related posts in one place,..... But another sub board may be going to far IMO. The History / Resto board only averages what; 6-7 new or updated threads a day. That doesn't really seem to be enough traffic to warrent a new board to me.
I Believe that JT is right and that a Online article ( or perhaps a sticky in the H/R board ) seems like a more reasonable idea. I also believe that the biggest reason this is true is what OKOZ stated about the threads turning into "They got this wrong and that wrong".
I just get the feeling that that sub board will cause every thirdgen owner with an exception to the printed matter to have a chip on thier shoulder. There's been too much of that on this site recently !!!!
On with the Debate !!!

Re: Book Reviews Sub board under History board
I too thought of a sticke, WHat I did not like about that is either we would have 50 stickes (1 for each book ) or 1 Sticky with every book... Neither seemed reasonable... I guess thats why I was thinking of a specific place for them. a Wiki seems to be a reasonable means... I am not sure how they work though.
