I recently got a headliner for my '89 bird (with t-tops), but darned if I can get it in place. Can anyone post pictures of theirs installed? I can't find any mounting holes in the headliner or how it will be secured around the t-tops. Service manual and Haynes has nothing, can't find anything online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not much holds it in except the trim pieces around the edges. The dome light holds the center up. The sun visors and 2-3 pieces of Velcro work across the front. If that is a new headliner, should be an instruction sheet with it.
Dome light hole.
I placed a couple trim screws here to firm up the install.
They were placed THRU the headliner itself and into the body metal.
I drilled the holes.
They are hidden by the dome light when installed.
The dome light just installs in the stock position and used the factory
holes.
The included instructions were worthless!
Just being held up by the visor mounts, plastic dome light base and the rear
trim panel filler it needs other help to hold it in place.
Some folks have used double sided tape.
With my t-top instaLL I needed to place a few trim screws with the molded washers
in areas that were hidden by the visors, under the dome lamp, and the rear trim panel
because the headliner would move and shake badly with the t-tops off.
Really pleased with the results as it looks 100% better than NO headliner at all.
Pretty good deal for only $118 bucks plus shipping!
Great tips, suggestions and links, thanks. Didn't realize I was missing the rear trim (can of worms father/son project car). There is no dome light in the car, I have ordered one - think it can be tapped into the under dash light without causing a problem? Seems like this car has been hacked more than a tree in a cub scout campground.
The dome light wires should be there or tucked inside of the roof
cavities. or in the left A piller behind the plastic trim.
For a used dome light cheap either check out thirdgenranch.com
or your local pic a part yard. Plenty of 80s and 90s GM cars used the
same dome light.
The rear trim piece can be found at those places also.
