Exactly. Only mention of it, is in the email from Chevrolet in the listing description. Yeah, makes no sense to me. Someone might be disappointed.

 

I also liked how he censored his name out of the email greeting, but left his full name in the "to" field.....

Looks to me like it's just a G92/B2L car. With 200K miles. I am definitely no expert, but I have read just about everywhere that the only way to trigger a 1LE RPO was to delete the factory AC on the order, with the other prerequisite RPOs in place.

 

Wait. You mean a thirdgen is being represented as something it's not? On Ebay? I'm appalled. Shocked.

The license plate even says its a Z28 1LE.......... Isn't that convincing documentation? Ha,Ha

 

He just emailed me and said that Mecum Auctions has verified it as a true 1LE car. AHAHAHAHA

 

I messaged him as well. eBay has been contacted but i'd suggest others do it too. With bidding over $10k (if legit) and reserve end up being met, someone is going to be disappointed. I hate it when people mis-represent cars like this.

Ebay doesn't know anything about anything. If they get enough reports, they'll most likely pull the listing just because. In reality, if we as a community started flagging every Ebay listing for "1LE" parts that aren't remotely 1LE specific, the world would be a better place.

On the other hand, we can sit back and let a subset of the community, that doesn't know any better, get screwed, and let them take action against these fraudulent sellers.

 

Seller messaged me and told me he retracted my bid and will not allow me to bid on the car nor purchase it for any amount to prove to me that he isnt a scammer. I chuckled a little inside

 

I actually believe that he's not a scammer. I think he is convinced he has a 1 of 1 1LE with no 1LE on the SPID, (that's how rare it is LOL!), fog lights, AC, no JG1, no front PBR brakes, etc.

 

Outright fraud, fabrication, bull**** and private shill bidding. This one flips all the switches!

Ya know... After giving this situation a bit more thought, I've reached a bit of personal clarity.

1) All the 1LE hype, that many here have bought into, and perpetuated, has led to this artificial market for all things 1LE. It's our fault that a decently equipped Iroc is both misrepresented as a 1LE, and that it's somehow worth less (worthless?) because it's not a 1LE. Who cares that it's short a brake package and long A/C? What difference does it make?

2) Everything is buyer beware. Even Ebay with E-letters of authenticity from GM and the E-check. Anyone stupid enough to buy a "1LE" without researching the topic, probably deserves to pay too much.

All that we can really do is get real about 1LE is/isn't, and to keep documenting facts instead of perpetuating fiction.

...And flag that BS listing.

 

1LE... not believable. But more unbelievable to me is the Petersen Trophy.

 

It's the "people's choice", dude!!!

 

They'd give out three awards like that at their cars and coffees. Best in show, a museum ready one (for cars that were good enough to go right into their museum), and the people's choice (you'd get a vote card when you arrived). For every event I went to, all three awards were taken by immaculate cars.

Maybe it was a thirdgen friendly crowd in Dec. 2016. Too bad I skipped that one!

I laugh every time i see a post from FART_NUGGETS. That's a classy name. No offense, but really, It's funny to me.

 

And there's nothing WRONG with that. It's still a 1989 L98 G92 Camaro. By all rights, it's more car than the vast majority of thirdgens. It should be one of the 'surprisingly fast' thirdgens, but because it's not a 1LE it's somehow considered less of a car. At a stop light, or the drag strip, it'd run right with the same car with 1LE. The only difference is the guy driving the 1LE is going to sweat like a pig sitting in the staging lanes, or while waiting for the light to change green.

If it were in better condition, with a third as many miles, it might actually be worth the $10k and climbing it was bringing before the auction was pulled. The car is OK, just the owner is an azzclown.

 

I agree, that is a nice car and had to be taken care of to look like that with 200k on it. But for a collector looking for a 1LE, or someone who just casually knows that a 1LE is special but is not an expert, it's seems to be misrepresented. And yeah, a collector, or anyone shelling out 1LE cash, should know better than to not do their homework.

 

I sent him a picture on an RPO sheet with a legit '1LE' code on it yesterday,..... I wonder if that helped to change his mind.

 

I provided the seller all kinds of information to verify his claim of 1LE status. I never heard back from him. I also told him what the SPID label was for and if the 1LE code wasn't listed, then the car didn't have that option.

I then flagged his eBay post as misrepresentation. We all contributed to this ad being pulled.
