Anyone know where you can purchase (if at all) new weatherstrip channels for the A and B pillars? I'm talking about the black channels that screw to the actual body. 5 screws on the A, 3 screws on the B.

I refurbed one and it took several hours. Might just buy em if I can find em.

I haven't seen them. Seems the originals were probably powder coated. The ones on my project car are peeling in places. Where the coating is still stuck, it's REALLY stuck. Not looking forward to stripping them down and refinishing them...

 

Well that's a hardtop car, but yeah....basically those pieces. Mine has Tees, so the t top channel is a third piece. The ones I need are just the A and B pillar, not along the roof. Snagged the pic from Ebay. These are about the best I could find. ....mine aren't this good, but I'm not gonna pay, and have to refurb 'em anyway.

Yeah...it's a pain.

Which'uns you got in mind? I think I've tried all the over-the-counter, sissyfied grabage from Walmart. Most of it is a waste of time. The Kleen Strip in the orangish can seems to work alright. It's the one with a million warnings on the label. I might have to test it on the coating in the next couple days to see if it effects it. Aircraft Stripper might be worth a try. Report back with what does and doesn't work.

haha....yup, I've got Klean Strip in an aerosol can. ....we'll see.

 

Just from looking at the MSDS sheets for a few of Kleen Strip's stripping agents, it looks like the "Premium Stripper" and Aircraft Stripper are the most volatile. Both have the same percentage of Methylene Chloride, with the "Aircraft Stripper" having a little Xylene and Ethylbenzine on top.

The other strippers have lower concentrations of Methylene Chloride. It's that same old story, make all the products safe so Little Johnny can drink the stuff and not get a tummy ache, meanwhile the stuff doesn't actually strip finishes.

I've pretty much given up on rattle cans. I don't like the unavoidable inhalation, and the wind here never stops blowing, so the stuff goes everywhere. Seems like I get more usable material from quart or gallon cans, and using cheap Harbor Freight brushes to apply the stuff.

 

Yeah.....we used some aircraft stripper on my fender a few weeks ago. SICK nasty stuff!!!!!!!! -worked well though.

I agree on the spray. I've had it for a few years, but I agree.....I buy chems by the gallon when I can.

 

It would be easier to send them off to a powder coater. They strip them and give them back like new. A few small parts like that won't cost much coin.

 

You know I thought about PC'ing....but never thought about the value of the parts stripping, lol! ....might look into that.
