I have the lous short stick in it. I just finished my auto to manual swap, I haven't driven it yet but I hate how second gear feels. Way to low in the back corner of the shift plate. I'm thinking of putting the stocker in it. Whats your thoughts?
I have an MGW shifter and it has an adjustable height. Although even at the tallest it is still pretty short. The nice thing about the MGW desIgn is you can have a machine shop just make you a longer rod and it'll slip right in.
Do you think the billet would bend or crack? That is a good thought, I would really like everything in the boot a little farther forward.
that mgw is pretty slick. What is the cost on That? Have you shifted a pro 5.0 before to compare? Money not really an issue just I have changed so much in this car over the winter I really should stop throwing parts at it, drive it and then make some decisions. Console is just sitting there right now however.... don't feel like ripping it out again to swap another shifter, interior although is dusty and dirty from working on it all winter is pristine and it hurts me to rip it all apart.
The shifter I believe is a factory hurst, it came out of an 02 ws6. And now that I think of it I believe the stick is from hawks, bought so much lately can't remember what anything is....
I bought a Hawks shifter that came with the shortened stick like you have. I also thought the shift ball was too close to the console after installation. My guess is that there is a difference in the height of the thirdgen and fourth gen consoles. This makes the stick intended for a fourth gen too short when installed in a thirdgen. I've never compared the two, just my assumption because I don't see how anyone would like a shifter that low.
My solution in the end was to install the stick I had on my previous shifter.

Looks like current pricing is $209. It's not as expensive as people think when they look at it.
I have had a Pro 5.0 in a 4th gen car and I had no complaints. MGW is not kidding when they say shortest throw. It is almost unnerving at first but the shifter works so well that you don't even think about it after just a few miles. And there is no vibration, just like they claim.
It was probably over 6 years ago when I had the Pro 5.0 so I don't remember those details well enough to give you a good answer. I didn't have any complaints at the time.
I have a friend that has ruined his engine twice grabbing the wrong gear with a Pro 5.0. He keeps adjusting it and shimming it. I've never been able to get him in the driver seat of my car to try my shifter. That would be the best comparison possible.
Personally, I picked up an mgw 2 years ago and haven't looked back since. It sits in the centre of the console, far away from any edge and is easy to grab/shift with. I don't have any noticeable vibration in the shifter outside of what you'd expect from a direct attach manual and the movement is smooth across all 7 gears. I don't have a side profile image at the moment, but this may help for reference:
I have a Hurst, very similar dimensionally to the Pro 5.0. No complaints. No noise, no vibes. I can see where the throw could easily be made shorter, only problem with that is, the T-56 requires relatively more force on the shifter than some transmissions, which would make a REAL short shifter kind of ... heavy feeling. Seems like that would get old after not too long in typical rush-hour freeway traffic or the like.
I gotta agree with the OP though; I have fairly long arms, I wouldn't like 2nd feeling like the **** is all up in my liver. I'd like the whole pattern up and to the right overall if I could choose.
I love my hurst. When the wife surprised me with it it blew away the homemade job I was swinging around. Definitely not real short. I love the chrome stick and white **** look, kinda old school.
