Hood support springs/lift supports

Hows it going guys. Has anyone ever ditched the hood lift supports and modified a pair of lift coil springs?

Why? Gas struts rock. If they didn't go bad every few years, they'd be perfect. Buy a pair from Advance Auto, photocopy the receipt and keep it someplace safe. Lifetime warranty. When they start getting soft, take them in with the receipt and get a new pair.

Re: Hood support springs/lift supports

I was interested in dumping the gas struts for some of the old style ratchet style supports. The gas struts have a tendency of bowing the hood.

Unfortunately the ones I found are either too short or too long for our hoods.

I hate them. They are too unpredictable. Plus, where I live, there is no Advanced Auto Parts Store. Just Oriellys, AutoZone, Napa, and CarQuest. All do not provided Lifetime Warranty.

Absolutely. But I dont know where to start or how to dive into the mod. If I had a parts car, I would try the mod.

Re: Hood support springs/lift supports

Just ordered a pair off ebay today for 24 dollars with free shipping. If they only last a year I'll buy another pair.
