Here's my 1982 Z28. Sitting with just over 20,700 miles. All original other than fuel pump, tires and alternator. I have the factory Goodyear Eagle GT tires, and they're actally in great shape. I have the original alternator, too which is getting a rebuild and going back in the car. I just got the car in January, and have only put a little over 300 miles on it so far.
Oh, and I put a new stripe kit on it too. The originals were starting to peel in a few places, and I couldn't handle such a nice car with not so perfect stripes.
Where did you find it?? I'd love to stumble across something like that! The only issue I would have is driving it too much....but if it's not driven enough, that's even worse for it.
Thanks for the compliments! The car has a really weird story. I had an older brother that was killed in a twin car to this one back in 1989. The car was his pride and joy. His was a 4 speed though, and mine is an automatic. Anyways, I've been searching for probably 20 years to find another 82 Z28 with this color combo. And had NEVER even seen another one. I bet I had searched hundreds of times over the last 20 years or so. I figured if I ever did find one, it'd be a pile of crap that I'd have to dump a pile of money into to restore, etc...
So, back in January, I decided to sell my Harley and buy a yellow 1986 IROC-Z with only 40k miles. I had everything lined up to buy the car. So, I got a call on a Wednesday from a guy saying he would be at my house on Friday with cash and a trailer to buy my Harley. So I hung up the phone with him, and did one more quick Craigslist search and here was this car at the top of the page. It's 71 year old owner in Rochester, MN had JUST listed it for sale. I couldn't believe I found a twin to my brothers car, and couldn't believe that it was a cherry, low mile original car. It was meant to be! I immediately called my family members and asked if they were OK with me having a twin to his car, and they all thought it was a neat tribute to him. I called the guy as soon as i could and bought it sight unseen over the phone, had a friend pick it up with an enclosed trailer, and I didn't even see the car in person until it was delivered to my house.
[i]My car when i bought it (3 of the centercaps were inside the car)
I posted pics of the car when I got it in the history/originality forum and 2 guys shared pics of twin cars as well from back in the 80s. Their whereabouts now are long unknown.. They must not have built many this color combo at all....they just seem to not exist
Thanks fellas......even though it's been a very long time....it was still super hard to take that car out there. But I know he'd be thrilled to know that I have a twin to his pride and joy
