Front tire size

Alright guys, I am looking for some info on front tire size. I just got my new wheels and will be running a 295 40 18 on the rear but would like to know if anyone is running a 275 40 18 on the front? Not sure if that will be any rubbing issues. I was thinking about a 275 35 18 on the front but worry the sidewall will look too small.

Re: Front tire size

No, use the 35 series. The 275/40 is 26.6 tall and is too much for the front
Rear should be 295/35/18, which is 26" tall and will match the front

Re: Front tire size

The 40 series fits the rear perfect. I had a 245 45 18 on the front with no issues. Was hoping to stay away from the 35 series. Not a fan of the rubber band sidewall. Bit if i dont have a choice i guess i will have to go that route.

Re: Front tire size

Then aspect ratio, the 2nd number of the tire size is a precentage of the width, it's not an actual number so a 35 series tire can have a taller sidewall than a 40 depending on the width of the tire.
For example my rear tires are 335/30/18 but have a taller sidewall than a 245/40/18

Re: Front tire size

A 245/45/18 is a taller tire, but is also skinny so it's not as problematic as a wider tire of the same height. Buy what you want, but there is a good chance the 275/40 will rub the wheel openings when turning

Re: Front tire size

I get the percentage of the sidewall. I was just trying to keep the overall diameter close. My rears are 27" tall. I just didnt think going down to a 25.5" front tire would look right.

Re: Front tire size

Give the 275/40 a try then. Since you have 18" wheels, you can pull them in further than 17" and smaller since the tie rod will clear the wheel. If the wheels are more inboard, they will be less likely to rub.

Provided you are already using spacers and can use thinner ones

Re: Front tire size

I run 275-40-18 front and rear for my street tires, slight rubbing at full lock [parking lot turns]. A little better ride than my autocross tires that are 275-35-18. Part of those choices were about what sizes the tires I wanted for each purpose were available in.

Re: Front tire size

I think i will give the 40 series a try then. I will be running a weld rts 18x9 with a 6.1" backspacing so it will bring the tires in a bit. I assume you are running a 9.5 or larger front rim?

Re: Front tire size

On the front I am using 9.5 x 18 c5 corvette wheels with 1.5 inch spacers, I have the c4 13 inch brake conversion which moves the wheel mounting surface out about half an inch.

Any chance you have a pic of them on the car? I have 2018 camaro 4 piston brembos going on the front and the conversion also pushes the wheels out .375"
