factory upshift lamp

I can't find a schematic for this.

The factory 'upshift' lamp, which wire is it under the dash, and is the trigger a ground or +12 ?

My ECM harness is for an auto car, so I need to splice it to the correct wire under the dash for the ECM to control the shift lamp.

Re: factory upshift lamp

I believe the ECM pulls the pin low, so the bulb has +12 ignition on the other side, I don't know the wire offhand

Here’s a 730 schematic. The ecm grounds the bulb.

I know it's passed through to the ECM on the ECM connector if a manual car, but I suspect on an automatic harness it goes direct to the TCC plug.

I'm guessing the small connector that connects the ECM harness to the dash harness is where the shift lamp wire is. That is where I need to locate it, to splice it to the ECM connector as I'm using an automatic ECM harness, not a manual one.

Do you know off hand which pin / wire color on that connector is it?

Re: factory upshift lamp

It’s shows tan/blk and pin h but that would only apply to 90-92
I think the pin placement is different in the older cluster.

Pin7 for 86-89 I believe

Looks like John from ri might have it from a fsm

Re: factory upshift lamp

An automatic doesn't have an upshift light output.

The same pin is used to control the TCC...

Yup.

So I traced the harness back, and the pin is in fact also tiee to the lamp. Just had to put a bulb there.

Worked great, set it so the lamp comes on at 5800.

This is going back 15+ years, but on the factory code I'm fairly certain there is some constants to force the light on above a certain RPM when using a manual bin.

I'm using an aftermarket ECM, so I was more questioning the wiring not the factory ECM logic.

What ECM and bin are you using?

When I did mine (was auto) I had to add the wire at the back of the cluster.
You need another pin (with wire) to put in the slot (pin 10) where it goes.then add a bulb, the printed circuit is already there. Then run the wire to the ECM

So.. My dash wiring is for a 5 speed car, but I did have to put a bulb in the cluster. My engine harness was for an automtic, but the wire for the TCC and shift lamp was spliced together in the harness. The ECM grounds the lamp.
