To those of you with the luxury of a lift to work on your cars, what kind do you have, how much did you spend, and how do you like it? We're almost done cementing the floor of our shop, and I will be shopping for a lift in the next few weeks. I plan on eventually getting a 4 post to work on my pickups and ease of doing oil changes, so don't really need more than enough to lift an average car. What are the best deals for the money out there?
Thanks guys, seems like a good deal! But after thinking about it, I'm kinda leaning towards getting a 4 post first. Only a few hundred bucks more, and based on my years as a mechanic, only inconvenient for certain jobs.
I have a 4 post I got (barely) used. I use it to store one car above another as I have too much crap in my other bay (engine on a stand, project bike, tires, I need to clean house).
I really like the 4 post, mine came with cast iron casters so I could roll the lift with a car on it around if I wanted to. I wish I had the pneumatic jack for a cross beam to be able to lift the tires of the ramps. Other than that I love it.
I have a BendPak XPR-10AS 2 post, think it was in the $3k range delivered. Wouldn't give it up for anything. I would like to have a 4 post in addition but if I could have only one it would be the two post.
I did notice that a set of the cross jacks can cost almost as much as the lift, lol! Last summer while browsing Craigslist there were several used ones in the area. Now that I'm almost ready to get one there's nothing around. Hate when that happens.
I personally would rather have a two post,the 4 post will limit you unless you can get the cross jacks.
I have a Mohawk 2-post and an Atlas 2-post,I would like to have a 4-post in addition to the 2-post.
The Altas 9KOH I have,I bought used from a guy on craigslist and I have been very pleased with it.
I have a Dannmar 10-ACX? Wide set asymmetrical 2 post lift can open doors on the lift far enough to get my overweight body in and out. Paid $2,348 in summer of 2015 delivered for it from ASE deals.com add 2 post it's not good for a storage lift. But to change the rear end, drop the gas tank or to pull the motor from the bottom Nothing beats a 2 post lift.
plus it's a certified lift. Also it does not use chains for the lift uses full length hyd cylinders.
I researched 4 post lifts for a long time before I finally made my decision. I purchased a Advantage Lift. The four posts are 5" boxed and the cross members are attached to a 6" box that slides over the 5" column. This is very similar to the Backyard Buddy Lift, but with many improvements and less cost. The approach ramps are 36" aluminum which makes it easy to install/take off, comes with 4 casters to move it if you need to, a 4500# rolling jack tray and drip trays. The base plates are 5/8" steel and are 12x12" for a very sturdy system.
I paid about $3k for mine and it makes me wonder why I waited so long to get a lift. Also, look at the plate securing the lock. Nicely welded 5/8" plate steel. You cannot shake this lift!!! There's is absolutely no movement on it when loaded top heavy. When the lock is in place, and you lower the lift to secure the lock, it can't come out. It's almost impossible for one corner to drop. The C-channel lifts have too much movement and I didn't think they were secure enough.

This looks like it fits in a standard garage? is your ceiling height about 8' 4" or so> I really like this set up!
My garage is 10' tall. It would definitely be better if I had just one more foot, but I can do what I need here. If I lift to the next lock, I can walk under the car without crouching, and I'm 5' 11". Right now, I can't walk under the car without hitting my head on something.
Now, if I do go to the next lock (6" higher), I would put the roof of the car 1" from the ceiling when releasing the lock. With the fluorescent light not moved yet, I haven't raised to the next lock.

Tell them I recommended them to you if you decide to buy. I get nothing for it, but it helps them know that word of mouth is working. I love this lift and I'd buy another tomorrow if I could.

Thanks Scott, I will definitely look into that one! Finally finished our floor yesterday! At least I have a pit to get me thru till I get a lift. And fortunately ceiling height isn't an issue

Hopefully, this is the lift I'm going to get this year.
Was on their website today, looks like a solid piece of equipment. I hadn't given any thought to something that wasn't bolted to the floor, but i think being able to move it would be pretty cool.
I use a double-scissor lift. For most of the work this is perfect for me. Of course working on the exhaust is a little more difficult or body work from below but for the rest it's a great space save as you do not have any posts to deal with.
