Check engine light on after mods?
Ok guys I’ve got a mild cam, edelbrock air cleaner, hooker headers and y pipe, advanced cam timing etc
so I extended the factory wiring harness to get the 02 sensor to fit my headers so it’s not an 02 problem. All the vacuum lines not in use are capped off. Any idea what could be causing the light? Which emissions thing should I plug back in to get it to turn off

It's the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link, used to read possible trouble codes stored in the car's computer. Here's how to retrieve and decode them:

The information you receive will then provide you with one or more directions in which to start troubleshooting.

Your original "CCC" (Computer Controlled Carb) for 1982 was , of course , controlled by an ECM (Electronic Control Module) . The way you access the ECM is through the "ALDL" (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link) . This is a connector located under the dashboard , pretty much just in front of your right knee when sitting in the driver's seat . You jump the top two righthand connectors with a paperclip (Yes , really , if you search "paperclip" here you'll find literally dozens of threads discussing it) , turn the key to the run position (do NOT start the engine) and the check engine light will begin to blink the codes . It will start by blinking code 12 three times in a row (One blink , pause , two blinks , which then repeats three times) and then after three code 12 blinks it will blink the actual stored trouble codes (For instance three blinks , pause , two blinks , repeating three times , this will be code 32) . Once all stored codes are blinked , it will return to blinking code 12 as a signal that all trouble codes have been reported , then it'll start in again with the codes , repeating this sequence till you shut off the key (and of course remove the jumper) .PS , if your car has an electric radiator cooling fan (rather than a mechanical one bolted to the front of the waterpump , I can't recall if 1982 was electric or mechanical) don't be surprised that the ECM runs the fan in code display mode , this is totally normal .....
