OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

I have an oem Firebird Formula insulator that has never been out of box. This would be great for someone restoring a Formula for show. Price is $200

Re: OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

I bought it for my 91 Formula. The gm part number matches that as well. I'm located in southern Indiana.

Re: OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

There was a running change to the design, I'm not sure what yr it was changed.
(I have cars with both styles and may need both types, which is why I'm asking)

Re: OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

Yes, it will also "fit" the 82-4 Trans-am. (both types will fit 82-4 TA and 87-92 formula)
GM switch suppliers sometime in the early 90s? and those blankets have a different appearance. Like pressed/formed plastic bag looking vs the early pressed/formed fiber type. Would have to open yours and peek at it to see which you have.
I had pictures someplace to show the differences but can't find them.

Re: OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

I opened up the sides and it is the newer version. Very thin and does not have all that insulation like the older versions add. I would have to check on shipping prices but I would think it would be pretty high.

Re: OEM Firebird Formula Hood Insulator

The 91.5-92 plastic covered versions seem to hold up better. That said, the service replacements sold in the late 90's/early 2000's aren't the plastic coated version. Meaning that there may be several variations across the years of production.
