Re: For us Ls/lt guys.

Yeah, those ZF eight speeds are pretty cool. People have been adapting them for several years now but the adapter plates and controls have been expensive. But a guy at LS1tech.com has figured out how to control it with a Holley Dominator ECM.

The HP70 that Dodge puts with the naturally aspirated engines is good to about 700 horsepower stock. The HP90 with the supercharged engines is good to 1000 horsepower stock.

Re: For us Ls/lt guys.

I have a 2015 ram 1500. The ZF8 2wd for those is $250 used by the dozens near me. I've seriously considered buying one just to stash. As the conversion becomes more mainstream, those prices are going to skyrocket.
Fyi, SVR jags and land rovers use the same box too. They're basically indestructible

Re: For us Ls/lt guys.

The reason they're so cheap is because the transmission has an internal ECM that is locked to the original vehicle.

Re: For us Ls/lt guys.

For those of doing service replacements, it's as simple as swapping the TCM from one valve body to the next. For the aftermarket, it seems they've been quite successful working around it.

They hang down very very low... and our cars are already difficult with ground clearance.

The oil pan on the 8 and 10 speeds hangs down way too low!!!

The Transmission Oil Pan on these Models hang down about 3" to 4" lower than the Engine Oil Pan.

A member on this forum did a really great job swapping in a 10-speed (10L80 and Gen V LT1) It really came out fantastically, but it hangs down way too low.
He did not post any proper images of his ground clearance, (but I have empty cases here of most any Transmission to experiment with fitment in our F-Bodys) and it's a problem.

It really needs a Belly-Pan at the very least.

@NicD did an excellent job with the swap, you can see the Thread here:

I thought those ZF8HP transmissions were only slightly bigger than the 4l80e??

Re: For us Ls/lt guys.

The 8HP Transmission has an option for a super low profile Oil Pan that is about 1.25" higher off of the ground than the 10L Transmission.
But using the 8HP this way is not ideal due to reduced volume of ATF.

The 8HP is taller in height than the 4L80E.
