Sorry, if this is posted somewhere. I searched the Internet and this forum but did not see it. Question: is the torque arm from a 9 bolt rear end fit on a 10 bolt rear end? Are they the same?

 

All torque arms are the same from 1984 - 2002.

 

Thanks. I figured that was the case since I didn't see anyone talking about it. But almost all the torque arm kits I saw stated they fit 10 bolts but never mention 9 bolt. Though qa1 says oe rear ends.

 

They are not all the same. Close, butt not the same. Exactly the same except different to the point of incompatibility.

At the transmission end, there are 2 different styles. That end is stamped into a sort of "3" or "W" looking shape, with the "lips" facing either one way, or the other. They are otherwise the same. For this reason there are also 2 different mounts for it, which accommodate one or the other direction of the stamping. The metal bracket part of the mount is the same butt the rubber bushing thing is different.

They are however, completely interchangeable, as long as the arm and mount agree. The 9- and 10-bolt makes no difference. Nobody out here in owner land has ever been able to figure out why some cars got the one style and others got the other; it's not a matter of year model, assy plant, or any other obvious defining characteristic.

 

I was under the impression that 82 - 84 had the old front mount,
and late 84 - 2002 had the other front mount.

Any aftermarket torque arm with "stock" style bushing is going to be standardized on the later design. Could have a different style bushing too, but again the bushing would fit in the saddle for 84 - 2002.

 

Sofa is right. Some, the "W" is backwards from others. In MY observations, 4th gens are opposite 3rd gens. Waaaaay back in the day, that was an unpleasant surprise.

 

I believe ya. You guys are probably right.

 

Not to thread-jack, but there also doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which cars got the one-piece transmission crossmember, and which cars got the two-piece crossmember.

Regarding the torque arm; I had to look to see which one I have before ordering the new bushing...
