i use the polygonal lasso tool to just go around the car n then i copy and paste it so its on top and easier to change colors, then i go to Image, Adjustments, Hue - Saturation and colorize it there, and i can just keep doing it to that car layer so its really easy.
whites a bit harder though, i had to mess with contrast and brightness a bit.

Yes i am actually almost done pulling the motor, and i'm tearing apart the interior entirely, and if all goes well there will not be another spec of teal on the entire car and you won't even know it's been a color change. that's why i'm open to suggestions. i would go black but my 67 camaro project is going to be black, no questions asked about it, and my 94 daily drive camaro is black, so i really don't need another black. i was thinking maybe a decent silver. i just don't know anymore.

hok orion silver is an excellent color and is a base foundation for any major candy paint. if it's good enough for kandy it has to be a nice silver.
paint is so particular... pic a color and i'll give you a few examples to help you. i'm partial to pearls and candies myself though. metallics are alright but they fade fast in the sun.

Only reason I ask is, a cousin of mine who paints cars for a living mixed up this really killer purple, and I always thought that it would look first class if it was candy.

the only way to make candy is with a colored clear, therefore you would have to find purple clear which is out there. i have yet to see a purple candy though, good question indeed.... i'll find something.

ok, I don't know if this helps at all, but I did a really quick photoshop of your car since it is kandy red, I didn't touch it up or anything, I just wanted an idea of what purple might look like...
edit, I think I made it a little too dark..

darker is more realisitic and what you would want anyway as the darker it is the more depth shows up in the light. i have a gold base so that is very close to how it would look which isn't bad at all. go with a silver base and it would instantly lighten up.
