Emission testing....no pass

They lowered the standards some; HC is now 117 slow speed and 114 high speed, used to be 220.
The B4C did not pass the slow speed test, got 149 HC standard 117 and CO(%) was 2.7, standard is .65. So everybody that has to take the new emission test get ready, the guy said that a lot of cars are failing and are way off, my car is close it passed the high speed test easily.

I asked him if the dyno could show HP and he said yes, but did not have time to run that test, maybe later.

I saw some stuff at O'Reilys that said if you used it, you were guaranteed to pass. I dont remember the name of it but it should have been called 'Screw The EPA' It was one of those products thats sitting right beside you at the check out line.

Some of the guys I talked to said; that stuff worked on the old sniff test but might not work for the dyno test.

I think that if you take off your intake it's probably oily and wet.

I'm sure if you do a leak down test, you'll find your rings are probably shot and you'll need to pull the engine.

However, at least look on the bright side...now is a good time to upgrade cam, springs, and get a new timing chain.

Oh, watch out for those Torx bolts..they're a PITA

Doing a rebuild and upgrade to the motor.

I hate Torx, broke one bit and rounded out one bolt, I am going to use Allen bolts and get ride of the #)%&#(%)**#$ Torx bolts

Really did not want to pull it at this time, but I will have to now, o-well I can make it faster now.

I was kidding about putting the light bar on it, all though it would be fun to have it all painted up and have the lights on it.

Good luck with the rebuild! Just use regular bolts to replace the Torx ones. If it's in a tight space use header bolts.

I've heard a little about the new emissions laws, but noone seems to realy know who has to have emissions tested and who doesn't. Is it everywhere in Texas or just major cites like Houston, Dallas, etc? Anyone know where I can find information about them online?

It's just in major cities and surrounding areas. I'm going to have to get my 84 registered out of this county to avoid the stupid new laws.

okla testing

we just ditched our testing all together.. $5 for an inspection sticker wasnt flyin so well because most inspection centers just gave it to ya for the $5, so the highway patrol will test ya when they pull ya over, but only if your car is really really bad shape & needs it...

I guess san antonio isnt a major city, cause we dont have no stinking emmissions. I lived in maryland before and emmisions sucked. One thing that will help is dumping 3 bottles of drygas(iso alchol) in the tank. the engine has to be good and warm too. It saved my car everytime, when it was stock.
