Emissions in San Antonio?

Hey guys,

I am going to be moving back to SA within the next few months. I know that SA is not doing emissions testing right now, but does anyone know if they plan to?

My car is emissions legal right now, but I want all that stuff off. When they do the "safety" inspection, do they look for the AIR tubes, smog pump and stuff?

Any help would be great. Thanks, Thomas

Last I thing I read about this was that they were adding 4 counties to the list that had to do dnyo emissions, not sure which ones though or when.
The guy that I use told me that he read they were planing on making almost all counties compliant by 2005.

I found this.

http://www.tnrcc.state.tx.us/air/ms/vim.html

Timing:
 May 1, 2002: ASM/OBD began in Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin counties.
 May 1, 2003: ASM/OBD began in Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, and Rockwall counties.
 May 1, 2004: ASM/OBD begins in Chambers, Liberty and Waller counties if an alternative air control plan has not been approved by the commission.

San Antonio is Bexar county. Looks like you are in the clear for at least a year. I would leave everything in place, IMO. It is a pain to buy a sticker every year, I hear.....

Thanks for the info, guys.

I read a lot of the info, but I dont see anything that says Bexar is going to do it.

I wonder if they are going to "Grandfather" any cars that were registered before they start the testing. That seems to be what most places do.

they don't grandfather anything in here in Tarrant county. Kinda like the smog ****'s IMHO. There are some cars that you know would never pass inspection on the roads. My cars at least LOOK like they would pass.

Just depends on how many $50.00 you leave sitting on the motor.

They only do a visual inspection of the smog equipment now. Some inspectors only check for a cat and egr. ( some inspectors wouldn't know a cat from an egr valve, they got the job because they are someones brother in law or something) We keep expecting treadmill tests to happen, but not this year. Not looking foreward to installing my air pump and manifolds one day each year.
