Good 3rd gen shops in D/FW?
Hi all, I am already very familiar with MMT, RPM, and Speedtek, and was wondering if there were any 3rd gen specific or recommended shops in DFW, as most of these guys are 4th gen LS1 shops. TIA!

I'm not just a 4thgen/LS1 shop!
I've done everything there is to do on thirdgens. I have a 15th TA, and had 3 other thirdgens before that one.

Yeah, yeah, I knew I'd go to you for ANY rear end issue and clutch installs, no question...
However, I didn't know you did 3rd gen engines, though...That's cool...
How much for a cam install, and what do you think of a LT4 hotcam to start with? I plan on porting everything, siamesed runners, LT's with duals, and LT1 injectors with AFPR...What do you think of that combo to start?

Sweet dude, will do. I think you already have the job...
BTW, I don't think Derek will be able to do the window motor tomorrow, he didn't get paid enough, I think. I'll have him give you a ring tomorrow during the day.

where is your shop? i have a 91 rs 305 tbi its been bored .30 over heads milled slightly due to some warpage, the cam is a little bigger than stock but i was told it wouldnt mess with computer, plugs gaped at .45, accel 8mm wires, accel coil, 1in spacer between tbi and intake, stock exhust no cat. all the sensors are new except for the two in the air filter case, 160 thermostat, fan wired direct. im getting a very strong fuel smell during warmup. and for the first 20 mins. or so it will die if i dont play with the gas pedal, after that it idls ok. drives great but when i put it back in park it will idle up around 2300. i put in a hypertech offroad chip but couldnt tune it right for the street,(duh) . it also burns way to much fuel. shifts rough and has very little low end power. think you can fix it? :hail: let me know tks ruquick91

ok, the car is running much better, still a few problems, i noticed when running out on 820 that when i let off the gas the car would still run at whatever speed it was at (give or take a few mph). maybe linkage sticking or something? also its still very cold blooded, as far as starting it up in the mornings, it sputters and dies a few times ( around 5 or so). i have to play with the gas to keep it running until it warms up alittle then it will idle. oh yeah, while on 820 i ran her up to the 110 mark, still had some pedal left, started thinking about my tires and slowed back down.

Sounds like the IAC may be sticking...It controls airflow at idle and on deceleration by letting air into the engine when the throttle blades are shut. If you feel the pedal return to its full, throttle shut position on decel and it is doing this, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this is the cause. Try resetting the ECM, or even try a new IAC, they are like 50 at a parts store.
If your car has aftermarket parts, like a cam and such, you may also want to adjust the idle speed to leave the throttle blades open a touch, if that fails.
Hope that helps!

Stop by the NTTGA page on facebook. Maybe one of our local guys can help you with your problem, or help you find a shop that can help

Re: Good 3rd gen shops in D/FW?
There is a shop in Wylie Tx (East of Plano) called Wylie Vintage Garage that specializes in old cars. He works on third gens (they are barely old enough for him). I will tell you a couple things.
1. He isn't cheap, not that he is outrageous but don't go here if you are wanting something done at rock bottom prices.
2. He is very good and clean and wont scratch your car. He usually has 2-3 show cars every day and you could practically eat off his floor.
3. He is the only mechanic I will let work on my third gen. I highly suggest Wylie Vintage Garage (Mark is the owner, tell him Jason sent ya)
