Well I called around today and found out that Temple Acadamy is a NO GO. However, San Antonio Raceway is a strong possibility. I spoke with the manager there today and here is what I found out.

They prefer to rent the track on Saturday mornings which I think would work quite well for us. Arrive at 10am and Race till 3/4pm.

The track would be fully staffed with track employees, EMT etc.

Pricing is creative based on participation.
For 25 club members we are looking at 1000.00 for the morning with a 500.00 deposit.

If we can get to 75/80 members attending they would break it down as follows:

15.00 to race
10.00 to spectate.

We can charge a little more at the gate if we want to issue trophies or anything of that nature. This is something we would need some firm commitment on.

I have no trouble planning this as long as we don't play any games here. It will take quite a bit of time to get our act together.

I am thinking drag racing, show and shine, picnic/dinner out. We can do competitive brackets and award trophies. Could be a lot of fun. Nice family activity.

I went to an event at San Antonio Raceway with the Texas Grand Prix club and it went over very very well.

The sky is the limit here. Post this thread around to other boards. The more people we get the more we can do with it. If we get some serious interest I will setup a website and paypal account to collect entry fees ahead of time!

Let me know what you all want to do.

I am also thinking sometime in October to take advantage of some nicer weather!

Agree with October.

Depending on amount of people, count me in, it is an extra 100mi past austin now.

October is good. I live just north of Austin and it is 78 miles from my house to SAR. But worth the trip... SAR is a very nice track.

Texas State Fair is on October 16th.
Scott Settlemire will be there with a lot of the local F-bod crews.

You might want to avoid that weekend.

I'm really siked about this guys! I go back to school in H-Town Oct 18th, so if we had it after that, then I'd be comin' from there, instead of Bastrop. If we got enough guys from H-Town, I could cruise with them to Austin, and then have a massive cruise to SAR!
I think it'd be tough getting 80 thirdgenners together, but it would be killer tho!! Austion-F-Body is planning an Austin vs Houston shootout at SAR I believe. I think it'd be a lot easier to get the # of members if we got in on that. Thirdgenners only's gonna be kinda tough. I'm down no matter what...as long as Kitt's runnin'..I'm down!

I'm down for whatever, But I would not be willing to pay more than 20 bucks to run, so we would need more people than any of the previous meets to justify the 1k to rent the track

Texas Classic Car Show is September 11th at Rudy's off 183 in Austin. I saw a flyer today. Just FYI if we wanted to avoid that weekend, or somehow get in on that.

Well if you didn't need the Stage III clutch, you'd be able to afford it sooner. Anyone need 5-speed clutch hydraulics??

Does Austin have a F-Body Club?
It is difficult to keep up with shows and what clubs are around in Austin. I have 2 1985 Transams and would like to join a club or attend F-Body shows, but again, it is hard to find anything like this. It seems I might have found the group that can tell me. Thanks for any info

Thanks for the reply
I actually live near Lakeline Mall off of Hwy 620. My 85 I bought new is also in the shop getting put back to being dependable. After I get it back, I am getting a new interior put in it and then on to the paint. Nothing fancy. It is a Red 305 4 brl stock car with t-tops, but it is sorta a part of me I have owned it so long. I also have a '85 white convertible conversion car that is pretty rare. It has 14,500 actual miles on it. I only need a few things to get it back to tip top shape. It is extremely nice but the top fiberglass part was yellowed before I got it (sat with a plastic car cover) so I am getting that part painted, then the corner of the convertible top is messed up a bit but 175.00 is the quote to fix it. Then I am going to rip off the red pinstripes, go back with silver and I think that is about it. I replaced the original tires about a year ago when I got it. They were old and worn out. Sorry for the long message. Thanks for the advice on the whataburger. I might just get the convertible out for that one.

They allow ALL F-Body's, it's just that the majority of them have 4th gens...

Yeah, I'm about one or two generations off too. 4thgens give me lots of s*** too, they laugh at me that it's not 80's anymore and stuff.
Obviously, these folks don't know what's pretty anymore. I say we (thirdgens) have an acquired taste. And they are just jealous cuz they are stuck with pricey and ugly cars.

We should have a gettogether soon. I haven't been to a specific 3rdgen F-body gathering yet but I'm sure it will be a hoot. Especially if we do a drive-through. Nothing better than a bunch of beauties cruising through town.

Yeah I like the thirdgen
But I also love the 4th gen. I will probably get one of those at some time or another. I have had a 77,78,79 camaro, then the 85 T/A I bought new which looks like crap now, haha. Hopefully in a couple of weeks the new interior will be in so it will be starting to get up to par, then I need to find a painter that won't rob me in the Austin area. I can't spend a fortune on it but do want a slick paint job but not one with show winner detail. I want to drive this thing. If anyone knows of someone in the Austin/Cedar Park area that will paint reasonable and is good, please let me know. I know of a couple but after looking at the work, they were more in the league of the 300.00 paintjobs you see advertised but they wanted 1000 bucks. Mine requires very, very little bodywork as I only have one small ding, besides door dings on the doors but thats it. Mostly heavy, heavy sanding and prep which is the most important part of a paint job. Thanks for any suggestions.

Nothing wrong with and LS1 smokin' an L98 on the top end!
Back to the topic. Zimmy, you made any other progress on the date/place thing? No pressure at all, just wonderin'. We need to get our ideas, specifically time frame, to just a few dates we can choose from. Then go around to the tracks and such asking which dates would work. Start narrowing it down. Do we want a track for sure? How many tracks are in the Central Texas area?

Well to be honest, there has not been enough interest to make it affordable. Maybe doing it in H-Town would be a better route. The NTTGA guys seem to be in their own little world anyways so I would prefer not to bend over backwards to accomodate them as I would the Houston group.

Well we don't have to rent out a strip if it's that expensive. At the H-Town gathering, we just showed up after the meet and shot the **** till there was time for the thirdgenners to run against themselves. I don't think renting the track is necessary.

Yeah, there is no reason we have to rent the track, as long as we show up early enough to get some runs in.
