10 bolt posi rearend rebuild--HELP!!!
Is anybody in the Houston area got any experiance in rebuilding a 10 bolt posi rearend. It seems mine has quit pulling on the left side after the last trip to the strip. I have the tools and equiptment (including a dial indicater) necessary and am not afraid to do the work, just can't find the info I need to know what I am doing to do it right.
If not, does anybody know where there might be a good tech article on this subject?

Heya Zap, why not just go with a zexel torsen unit? Im not sure if you still got the stocker or what not, but when I bought a zexel torsen for my ten bolt, all I did was take the old carrier out, put the ring gear on the zexel and bolted it back in. As long as you don't move the pinion gear, there is no need to use a dial indicator as long as you keep the same shims. Sorry if this doesn't help.

I bought it for $100, they were the SLP take offs. They had like 5 miles on them. Basically they took them out of Z28 cars that were getting the SS package. SLP sold them for $100 because they couldn't sell them for new price since they were on the new cars for about 5 miles. They have long run out of supply now for that price. You can get them from summit and just about any other performance catalogue. Not sure how much they go regularly. I know the Heavy Duty units go for $400, not sure on the regular zexel torsens. The best part is they don't use clutches, its more of a locker.

is it the clutches inside that have gone? if so is is easy to re pack clutches we could even over pack them to give you the feel of a true posi. i did it once before and it wasnt that bad on a 96 f- body 10 bolt

Have to fix the engine first--heads are coming off in the next couple days and going to the shop depending on what I find.

The rear end in my 89 IROC is out of a 92. Do u know id it is a rebuilable unit with clutches or one that cannot be rebuilt.
I have done a couple searches on the thirdgeb tech boards, and read/learned their were/are several different types but I'm not sure which type of rearend I have.

Zap, if you are still looking for info, try this link. I am doing a gear swap myself right now and using that 75% along with Randy's ring+pinion manual (download from their site) and Helms manual.
You may also want to check out Auburn differentials. I heard they were fairly decent especially for autocrossing

Thanks--I'll look into that.
I've been messing with getting the engine back together first, and then turn my attention to the rear end.
