My car makes a beautiful whistling noise when I gun it too. Its the air filter... lol.
If I pretend real hard, it kinda sounds like a small turbo spooling up.

Barry (IM putting him in although he hasnt' confirmed) 355 L(*
Texas LT1 - LT1
Mike 1badz etc - 350 L98
Rudy 305
Black widow - V6
xtremeirocz - 6.0 L LS
Need to hear from Steven K to see if he is going to make it. If he does, the rest of us don't need to show up
Id sure like to see kevin with his formula Superramm, etc.
Where is Mike (from the last meet, young quiet guy) with a 305?
What about Owen, and all the old guys that used to show up, Sonar, Rocky, etc?
REally, like I said, showing your car is OK, but you need to back it up by racing. INfrequent racing will not trash your car, and it will do you soul a world of good.
I think we should plant it for NOvember, thanksgiving break, when Texas TL1 is around. Gives all you "works in progress" plenty of time to get her ready

We need others to chime in and say what type of car they will run. I know its early to commit to something in November, but if something comes up you can always inform me that you cant make it
So far we got 5 in the L98 class, one in the 305 class, and one in the V6 class.
Still don't know where to put that pesky 6.0L nitrous car

I loved the part about the squeaking belt. But it could be a vacuum leak. No clutch, but a blower. Yeah, I'll win but I can't drive the car because I got a FREE blower. You bring the blower Mikey. I'll bring the dope.

Well, I guess I did say "Houstons fastest thirdgenner". I would welcome anyone to come to the meets, the more cars the better. We have been pitifully few the last few meets, so I dont' want to discourage anyone from coming to a show/meet, but I guess I would rather stick with the Houston area for the organized eliminations, IF WE GET ENOUGH CARS.
Yes, ESC, I remember seeing his posts, but I don't know him and I haven't see the car at the meets I have been at. I was saying of the cars that I had seen race Texas LT1 was the fastest. So can I put ESC down for committing to the elimination races?
ESC - 377 ???
I guess if we get enough cars in the stroker class we could have another class. There could be
xtremeirocz - 6L
ESC - 377
Steven K - LS1
Im not a big advocate of a lot of classes, it seems to me to get too complicated, but again, it depends on how many and what they are running.
So far
5 in the L98 (Larry, Barry, Craig, Tristan, Mike)
1 V6 (black widow)
1 305 (Rudy)
2 Big dogs (6L and 377) (xtremeiroc and ESC)
not enought for more than one class at the moment

I've been working a temporary job lately that hasn't been leaving me much spare time. But that should finish up soon.
So count me in.

Great. Look forward to seeing you. I havent been to all the meets, I just meant that we probably missed each other, you being at some, and me others.
I take it your motor is not excatly a stock L98 350. Can I have a little info to help decide the class. Ideally a representative 1/4 mile time would be helpful too. For example
Larry - 13.4
Texas LT1 - 12.87
Craig - about 13.5?
Barry - Did not finish (just kidding, about 13.6?)
If others that are racing will chime in with a representative time, this will help.

Don't have any 1/4 mile times yet but I did visit Seally not too long ago.... and since traction was a big problem I think I'll do a lot better in the 1/4.
Scroll down to the time slip.

Since HRP is usually hooked up pretty good, I'd be looking for at least low 12's out of ESC, maybe quicker!

Cool. I was running about 8.65 at Sealy and 13.4x at HRP. So It you ran 8.04 at Sealy, you ought to run, well, I don't really know, I guess like 12.5 or so??
Anyway, I made a few mods since then and ran 8.4 at Sealy and haven't run again (not pm a hot day) so im expecting 13.1 or so on a cool night.
Theoretically your car should be the fastest. It will be fun to see you at the strip and see how it goes. Anything can happen in a race, and well, you better practice up because some have more racing experience
Look forward to seeing you there.

Well I really haven't spent much time, money making my beast run fast..just been trying to keep her on the road. But I need to show I ain't scurred to run with you modded big dogs. So put me in for the L98 class.
I have never raced, hell never had anything to race with so if I aske questions that might seem ignorant it's because they are..
My 350 is mostly stock, save for some headers and AFPR but I sure as hell will try my damnedest to kick some ***...

Thats the spirit!. None of us are pros here. Winning is fun but just competing is more important. Geez, I sound kind of cheesy but its true.
I would suggest going to HMP or Sealy and practicising a little. Sealy is really better, but proably farther for you. At the 1/8th mile tracks you can practice with the staging lites, the starting tree and cutting a good reaction time, and launching. The race is mostly won in the first part anyway. For me I shift into third with my Th350 at the 1/8 mark, then its just holding the foot to the floor and keeping the car straight for the second 1/8 mile. Sealy is very low pressure, low profile. We saw a guy a few weeks ago that went to far at the line, tripped the red light, put it in reversec and backed up, restaged, the LAUNCHED IN REVERSE, BWAAAAAAUUUHAHA. Much better to do that at Sealy than at HMP in front of a lot of people.
so,Illl add you to the list
Zap 89 - L98

Wow, that would be pretty fast. I did notice your 60' time on the time slip as Sealy wasnt so hot, like 1.98. My best on Nittos is 1.84, so if you can hook up good, who knows. What tires are you running at th strip.??
By the way, ignore those comments about running on the bottle, I am

My best time that day (the one I posted) was after retarding my timing about 12 degrees to help control my wheel spin. And even then I couldn't use full throttle in first.
Next time I'll be on ET-Streets.

untwist your panties. In Larry's original post he mentioned cars that he's seen run at meets and nothing more, nothing about cars that he's knows are faster, just the ones he's seen.

Let's see now --a 7.20 with the 1.56 conversion factor is a 11.23 1/4!!!
Dam_ that's quick dude! Somehow I missed that along the way--was not aware your car was that fast!
This is shaping up to be pretty interesting in the "highly modified" class/division (or whatever we should call it).
Be looking forward to see it at the track, and somehow I have a feeling U are going to turn in a new personal best!

but see then the point is that i went 7.2 in my 89 iroc that i dont have anymore. i went 12.03 at hrp in january with a untuned on radial 388 that i sold. i have no idea what a 6.0 ls1 truck bottom end with heads and cam on a 150 shot will do , but i do know what my wifes 5.7 did before the blower and it was a bottom 11. i just want to get this thing converted and get out and do some racing. my only point is that there have been plenty of thirdgens that i have seen go faster then a 12.80.

The title of the thread "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner" means, let's have a organized drag race and see who wins, that will be Houston's fastest thirdgen, at least on that day. Like the winner of the Olympics 100M is said to be the world's fastest man.
In order to set up classes, we first need the driver to commit to racing when we have this deal, sometime around Thanksgiving, then give representative information about the car that will be racing in that event, Like motor size and best 1/4 or 1/8 mile time.
I don't know who has or had a car that ran whatever time that was the fastest. The idea is not to determine who ran the fastest in this thread, the idea is to organize a drag race and determine the fastest car at that race.
I was beginning to rank the cars, based on cars that I know and had seen, then I want others that I haven't seen to chime in and tell me what they have run.
So if you plan on racing, and I haven't mentioned you in the last summary of what we have so far, COME ON DOWN

well, I havn't been on the boards lately. Looks like a lot of fun stuff going on.
Ok Larry, I will run at the Drag race in the fall. Hopefully I will have all the kinks worked out by then. Put me in the 12.80 and above class with all the other Ham and eggers.
I hope somebody with a really fast tpi/lt1/ls1 third gen shows up.
That would be cool if somebody could fire off an 11 something run.

Must have a loose wire or something. can't seem to fix it.
I drove it all weekand and it only did it twice.
By the way it sure is hot in the car with no A/C!

Hey Kevin, good to hear you are planning on making it. We are still trying to figure out how to divide the classes, how many to have, etc. I just want to get a better idea of how many cars at what levels want to participate.
On that sputter problem, could be the ECM (computer). I had a problem like that on my car when I first bought it. Then the computer went completely out and I replaced it and the problem went away. Also on both my son's V6 Firebirds we had a problem that was fixed by changing the computer. The problems were much more severe, extreme missing, etc, but they were intermittent. You can get a reconditioned ECM for about $80.
I was thinking about takin out my AC for more HP. In the end I wussed out and had it charged up with Freon before the last meet. It does make things a lot more agreeable even if I only drive the car occasionally.

I have to agree with you there. I never drive my Camaro during the day in the Summer (Except next Saturday!).
For the longest time the AC was useless, if I tried to use it the car would just overhear, but I think I have that under control.
One day I'll put the AC back in.

Man I could not survive without AC! And I don't think Sue would ride in my car either!

Thats another reason I don't drive my car in Summertime. I have a leak in the evaporator core (expensive $$$ to replace) and $$$$$ to recharge with r-12. Thats why I look forward to what little winter we get down here. I get to roll with the windows down and be comfortable.
