The orginal hood was solid. I was orginally against a Transam hood for my son's car, just to keep it more stock, but I found a good used one locally for a good price. I think it looks nice. Im debating whether to put a hood bird decal on. I hope the cops don't hassle him about the front license plate. I would hate to have to drill holes for a bracket

 

I think the hood looks just fine.

I have noticed a lot of the 4th gen TA guys at Otto's have their front tag sitting on the dash.

 

Looks good to me --it's just strictly a matter of personal preference--100%

I love the TA hood. If they hadn't been so expensive I would have gotten one instead of the RamAir 1 hood I have now.

 

Actually, I'm partial to the power bulge (I'd like one for my trans am), but on the white car the T/A hood looks nice. I have my tag in the fron t window on the passenger side here in Ohio and the cops don't seem to mind... even when it falls too low to read it I haven't been pulled over (crosses fingers).

 

I love the GTA hood, you should totally get it for him.

As for the front plate. Instruct your son to say the car is exactly as it came from the factory, and the factory never put a front license plate on the car. Then have him pull out the plate from under his seat if they hastle him more. "See, I have a front plate, its right here"

 

I've had no front plate since December of 04 in my mustang.

My sister got a 02 camaro about a year ago and within the first week of having it, was pulled over and given a warning for it. We bought it with a billet grill installed (but still had the stock stuff to put on). She drove around like your typical 19 year old.

As long as your son is a responsible driver then he should be fine...

 

It's already on the car, see pic. I got it used here in Houston at a junkyard for like $250 I think it was. the plastic insets had to be refinished and painted and the smaller ones had to be siliconed in instead of bolted. I actually like it too, especially on a white car as someone said. I was just thinking it might be a big hokey on a 6 cylinder car, but its not like putting a 5.7 liter decal on it or something.

Ive had my 91 formula for about 4 years now and have not had a problem with being hassled about the license plate either. Of cours I drive it a maximum of about 5 miles per week.

Im just waiting for the "pink title" to come. I already sent in the original title with an appklication for a salvage title as required. I got it inspected and back on the insurance. I also have an afadavit filled out by the repair shop and notarized. Hopefully thinks will go quick when I get that pink title.

 

About the license plate...yeah that will get you pulled over pretty quick depending on the officer. But one of the coolest things i've seen is a 4th gen camaro have his plates on the air dam below the radiator. It can be seen but wont look bad either. Couldnt tell if the firebird had an airdam in that pic but if it does give that a shot.

I don't have the front tag mounted either, car came from Oregon, so no mounts. I've considered the air dam like Rudy suggested, even so far as thinking of an old manual choke **** and extended cable to flip it up and down, "James Bond" style

Edit: I see now the later style gfx/nose, James Bond cable won't work there.

 

Larry, I drove from Houston to Arkansas about 10 times before I got pulled over for no front plate on my GTA. Local cops never gave me a problem - it was a state trooper that gave me a warning. My dad and I made a bracket that mounted to the bottom of the nosecone that held the license plate. It didn't require any new holes be drilled.

Since I live in Arkansas now and come home every now and then - I'll look for it if you want next time I go home. If I can find it, you can have it.

 

i agree if you want to mount your plate and dont want to drill any holes you can buy a kit that is just an L shaped bracket and hardware it mounts to the underside of the bumper that way you dont need to put ugly holes up in the front if you go to shows or anything its as simple as unscrewing 2 bolts (if you want to save just go to Home depot and pick up some hardware and L brackets) your god to go

 

I have an 89 trans am and will be putting the bulge hood on it... I like them better.. I will most likely sell the old trans am hood... It has slight damage that can be straightened on the right front edge.

I don't think you need to worry too much about no front plate. I've been driving my Camaro for over 24 years without one and have only gotten 4 tickets for it. Always from small town cops who were looking to make some money. They were determined to write me a ticket for something and I was just as happy to make it easy for them so that they didn't have to look to closely at everything else.

Just don't cross the Galveston-Bolivar ferry on a holiday or weekend. The DPS who ride then (thanks a lot homeland security) pay for their saleries by writing tickets for expired stickers and missing plates. Once the ferry is loaded they have a captive audience and check every car.
