Car Meets and Torque Arm

Have been trying to go to Otto's or other meets, work has been relentless. Want to meet you guys and check out your cars. Also, quick question. Has anyone had a clunking or thunk noise after installing a UMI non-adj. torque arm? Just installed one to finish my complete suspension rebuild and now it makes a noise under initial acceleration from a stop. Replaced front bushing also. Triple checked every bolt and all OK. I am at a loss. Badman

Check your transmision Mount.... I had my share of torn trans mount, they look new when you stick your head under the car but it can be torn.

Re: Car Meets and Torque Arm

I rode out to Otto's two weeks ago and it was dead. At 7:30 there were about 5 cars and a motorcycle. I ate and left.

I have not been out to Otto's in several weeks.
Probably won't make it this week either...but I am planning on going next week.

Re: Car Meets and Torque Arm

I installed a SPOHN a couple years ago. It was making identical sounds. Come to find out, it was hitting the bracket that secures the fuel lines in the tranmission tunel. You can't tell with the car off the ground since there is massive amounts of clearance with the wheels hanging. BUT, put it on the ground and there was about 1/16th of an inch between them. Here is a picture. You can't see the upper bar of the torque arm, but you see the bracket. To cure the problem, I used a mallet and a long impact wrench extension and some gentle persuasion. It didn't have to go very far.

Re: Car Meets and Torque Arm

Noise turned out to be the y-pipe hitting the sub-frame connector on the passenger side of car. When I installed the torque arm, it made the entire trans and engine assy. sit a little higher and caused the y-pipe to hit the sub-frame connector. Solved problem by using a thinner rear trans mount which made the entire assy. sit a little lower, causing the y-pipe to clear everything. Thanks for the replys and suggestions. Badman
