She's aliiiive!

After having bought my IROC back from the guy I sold it to 8 years ago, I had it towed to my house in non running order. I was told at first it hadn't run for 3 months, then was told it hadn't run for a year / year and a half, and then I found a post the previous owner made a year and a half ago that it hadn't started in about 5 years, so I am unsure how long it really had run. Frankly, I'm just confused ... it has either been a year or all the way up to 7 years. At the very least, it hasn't been driven in over 7 years, as the rear end has been busted.

Either way, dirty and broken, I bought it, and then took a few weeks researching/interviewing people for the job (no way was I going to do this myself, and no way was I going to take it to a shop!)

I hooked up with someone who sounded reputable that used to work at a speed shop that is no longer in operation in the area. He first expressed interest and I couldn't get a hold of him, though he said he would come over the next day. I tried calling and couldn't get an answer, so gave up. He ended up calling, and came over to take a look. We spoke for 45 minutes on the phone, and he said he would start working on it the following day or two. I asked for a rough timeline, and how to best get a hold of him since I had such a hard time getting in touch before. He apologized and said there were family medical issues. No worries ... it happens, right? Well, I drop $125 on stuff he tells me to get in anticipation of him coming over, and whammo ... he stiffs me again. I don't hear anything, and he didn't even have the courtesy to call me and say he couldn't take the job. He just decided not to call back or anything.

I was able to hook up with someone else who has so far, ended up being stellar. It is over at his place right now as he is working on it, and as of tonight, it has driven on the road for the first time in over 7 years!!! I am so stoked!!! Can't wait to get it back into my garage here so I can detail her, and drive her around.

I know a place where you can get a remanufactured ZZ4 with warrenty for $2995. That's over $1300 less than what you would normally pay GM or Summit for the same engine. I've gotten good feedback from them and from others who have used them. PM me if your interested.

Re: She's aliiiive!

The crazy thing is that the motor still only has like around 13k miles on it, and the transmission, about 1,000 ... the rear end ... just rebuilt. The drive train is just a baby in terms of mileage

Re: She's aliiiive!

just little tiny 255's. When I first had the car, I think that is all that could fit in the back. I could be wrong though. Maybe it is just the rim. I shall def. have traction problems

Re: She's aliiiive!

My rears fit 285s, and my engine, asside from a cat back system, is bone stock. I dont think I'll have traction problems haha. It looks good though.

I have one already that needs to be rebuilt in my car, just I got it with 120k miles and I believe there are wrong parts such as the battery with 550 charge is too small? The alternator amps requirements? thermostat is at 185 degrees (i believe its wrong) I just wanna check on things to make sure my engine is working proper after rebuilt

Re: She's aliiiive!

the battery is too small, 550cca is for a small car engine. you need about an 850 or 900 cca battery. the 185 tstat is fine. you dont really wanna go lower than a 180 on a street driven car. i run a 190 in mine. the alt amps really depends on what kind of electronics youre running on the car. a 100amp alt is fine for stockish compnents. when you start putting in a sound system with amps youll wanna get a bigger alt.

hope that helps

Re: She's aliiiive!

I have a new rebuilt 10 bolt with 3.73 gears. I'm looking to find someone who has a 12 bolt or 9" to trade for the fresh 10 bolt + cash. No sticky tires shall go on it until that happens
