Anyone in Houston interested in having a cruise in this Fall?
Something at one of the big parks around town.
For example, get together around Noon at Duessen Park on Lake Houston, have a meal and look at cars. When it starts to get towards late afternoon head over to the near by 1/8th mile track (I forget the name).
That is just one idea. Even if we end up doing something completely different, I'm just asking to see who is interested in doing SOMETHING.
I would definitely be interested, I just heard mine run for the first time in two years. It will be road worthy by Friday, I'm very excited to start going to shows and cruises again.
I've been working on mine this weekend as well.
My "leaky exhaust gasket" turned out to also need new motor mount bolts, adjusting all the valves, new spark plug wires (don't you hate it when the crumble in your hands when you are pulling them off?) and a new battery cable. It seems like every time I try to fix something I find two other things that need attention. Hopefully I'll have it back together and ready to play in another day or so.
You want to do something Saturday? I'm looking for an excuse to take my car out for a drive. I know you are way south of town and I'm way North now, but perhaps we can meet in the middle someplace.
My car went down at first for a "simple" TBI to TPI swap. That turned into an engine swap and everything in between lol.
Anyways I would be interested in doing something. My brother recently purchased a 2002 SS im sure he will be interested as well, its not a thirdgen but the guy driving it owns two lol.
Also Ive recently moved. Im in a more central part of town now, I live near where 45 and belt way 8 meet by the AMC 30.
Scope creep is a killer, isn't it?
I'm looking forward to seeing it!
45 and 8 South?
Google says almost 60 miles from here...
45 and 8 North would be about the halfway point.
I managed to at least put a new plug wire on it today. If I can get the starter battery cable replaced tomorrow, I should be able to drive mine a little, and see what else breaks.
I'm hoping to retrieve my lift this Sunday. Then the "real" work can begin.
If something like this fits my schedule I would take a look.
I don't get my car out much now due to family responsibilities but I took it out for a quick drive a few weeks ago. The car started having issues idling. I had to drive back home with feet on all three petals at times. IIRC, I've had to pull the throttle body off and spray with carb cleaner in the past.
This particular night I tried to teach my 13 yo son to drive a stick. It started the idle issue right when it was his turn to drive so I was fussing at him having issues (I didn't know we had the idle issue at that time). Anyway, I need to get the car going and let him have another stab at it. He might enjoy seeing his old man at the track.
I got my new starter battery cable in today...but then I noticed that the battery terminal on the starter is loose on the inside of the starter. It runs for now, but as soon as I get my lift installed, removing and either repairing or replacing the starter will be near the top of my list. A list that seems to be growing every day...
Id love to but my car is still down lol. I'm not out of the game just sitting the bench! Hope to be running early 2016
While I'm just a by stander I think meets that end up at the track are the best. If there were more 3rd gens it would be fun to have a bracket/quick 8 single elimination periodically throughout the year
Having an issue with my car, it wont stay on for long unless I give it gas. Not sure what the problem is. Also when I jumper the ALDL to get the diagnostic codes nothing happens.
I was just gonna do a clutch on mine that turned into a motor swap. And then I found a good deal on a low scr rotating assembly to a tt build. And then when o got it tuned n dynoed I sold the car a week later. I only drove it full trim like 5 times n on the dyno.
Now I'm looking for a roller or something to use the second tt kit I built.
Built 2 identical kits off the original I sold the car with. Sold one to a guy on tech and kept a kit for myself.
Got motor tt kit but no car.😔

You need to get it running right before you get your tags. You have to have proof of emission and safety test before you get the registration. A inspector will fail you if the car has issues while being tested. Your yr model will need ASM test and safety test. I'm a state inspector. Just giving you a heads up.
They don't give inspection stickers no more. And now need the proof before you can get your registration tags
I sure am glad that my car is exempt from all that now.
Tell me more about your cruise and track idea?
Got any dates in mind?
Cruise from where, to where?
I'm thinking that my next motor will probably be a twin turbo setup. But this one is still running strong, so I'll need to blow it up first, before I can justify a new one. Then I may just put in an LS 5.3 junkyard motor and TT it.

Appreciate the heads up... I guess Im gonna have to wait for it to be a classic before I can drive it again lol I took out all of the emissions stuff a while back.
Your car will get dynoed. Unless you wait 2 years and not worry bout emissions no more. It will b exempt. But for now. Even getting a classic tag. You may still need to prove emission compliance. Because of the year model and it came w emission system.

Lot of us had planned for SCT. But it got cancelled here in Houston.
So were trying to form something similar. Cruise from one place n then go to the 1/8 mile HMP. Possibly RPR if there is enough turnout.
Have alot more parking in this new location.
We are now Muffler n State Inspection Quick Lube General Auto repair along w the performance stuff.
We are all racers n LS guys. That's y we've gotten along pretty good so far.lol

Would you have any interest in having an "open house" one day, so we can all come take a look at your shop.

I am.
Everyone else seems to either be broken down right now or MIA.
It's possible to have an open day. We kinda outgrew the old place. Not enough parking spots. Shop got too small after a while. And we had to share the lot w other trades from the other businesses on same property.
This new place is isolated. Lot of parking. Fenced off
Easier access from 59 or hardy toll rd.
Nothing special about the shop. Just a ole muffler shop type business.
Planning on hosting events every now n then. But most likely will b after hours Friday or Saturday. Possibly Sunday if enough interest
I'm out till after the Pontiac Show in Dallas. Car is in the air and waxing the undercarriage and rest of the vehicle to prepare for that show on October 10th, 11th.
If anyone wants to drive up for the show to check out the cars and/or the airplanes let me know. I have a couple people going with other cars. Look up the DAPA car show.
With the month half over and only a half dozen interested, it looks like this meet will not happen.
Registering as an antique is great if the car will not be your DD. I highly recommend it. Registration is 1/5 the normal price and it will be inspection exempt, not just emission exempt like other 25 year old cars.
Hey, its almost Spring, how about now? I just got my car out of storage and running. I used post under Larry Dunlap, my name. Whats up everybody?

I'll probably start driving mine a little more in January (25 year antique status)
Hi Mike, its Larry Dunlap
Got my car out of storage and got her running last week. Turned 25 so I got a real inspection this time. Had the brake fluid and coolant flushed, seems to run pretty good.
I would like to start going to meets again. Ive got a new wife and baby, and just turned 66!!
I'd love to meet up with some fellow ThirdGen owners. Problem is that all my Saturdays are spoken for until the 26th. If anyone wants to get together then, shout out!
