Third Gen Fbody meet in Columbia SC

Well here I go again....

This past sunday i went with a buddy of mine to a MR2 Meet up at the Flying Saucer in Columbia. It was really cool.. there were about oh i'd say 20 or so MR2's there.. all different types, conditions, modificated or non, you name it... there were old new, etc. etc. The meet was at 1:30 pm, and NO one else was really there save a few normal paytrons.

That being said.. I was wondeirng if anyone here would be interested in doing the same thing, but as a THIRD GEN Only type meet. basically, we set a date, go down to the flying saucer on a sunday afternoon, around 130 or 2... and have a drink, eat lunch, bs about our cars, etc.

Would anyone be game? It wouldnt matter what condition or Year / model you bring as long as it was a Third Gen F-body. I think it would be a cool thing to do, and I think we could almost even get it going enough to be regular monthly or bi monthly thing if we were to have enough participation.

The keys to doing this of course would be to tell everyone you konw who has a third gen about it and to actually drive them down there.. and then to be cool enough to actually talk with each other! Im on good enough terms with the MGMT there where I can probably set up us getting say the Deck or some area to our selves for the most part.... So.... what say ye!?!?

Early Sunday afternoon is good as most people can find time to be there no matter what kind of work schedule they have. I seriously doubt that we could get 20 Third Gens to show up at the meet though.

Keep me informed. I'm surprised you haven't pushed me into joining GZ. Maybe I'll just crash a monthly meeting. How did the Gathering go? Did you attend? I have not checked your forum lately.

I was just thinking about it and I do know someone who has another '92 Purple Haze Camaro that I could possibly contact about attending these proposed get-togethers. His wife also owns a Third Gen too.

Do you know the guy that has that beat red Z28 that lives down the street from your VP?

Hey man! yea, thats what I thought too while i was at the MR2 meet.. It was not busy, everyone was able to show cause it was after most churches, and being sunday, well its a quiet day for doing whatever ya know?

I dont know if we can get 20 of them or not to show up.. iknow if I can get everyone in Ground Zero to show up with theirs, theres 6 at least. As for Joining, your more than welcome, but we try not to recruit, its more of a come if you wish type thing, that way no one feels pressured to join, and it kinda makes it more fun for everyone, that way they know theyre there cause they really wanna be. Plus we're more friends than a club for cars anyways.. but oh well your more than welcoem to come to a meeting though!

The gathering was Killer. We had a blast. took 4 cars, 3 4th gens and 1 third. The two sunset cars won 2nd runner up in their classes.. Lots of cars, and the concept was killer in person!

See with your 2 other folks third gens theres 9 total including you.. so i think we can probably rustle up some more if need be hopefully here on this forum.

No I dont knwo the guy down the street from andrew... (vp, not you) is it good looking?

im hoping we can get more interest here... and maybe get something going.

I missed the whole Power tour thing earlier this week at the Colonial Center, so I missed seeing the Camaro concept in person.

No, the red Z28 is pretty rough, but the guy's been doing some work to it recently. There's also a sweet circa 1983 Black Firebird with a Formula hood that resides in Old Friarsgate. If you can make this happen, you should print up some flyers.

I almost dropped by for your April meeting that was a Sticky Fingers. I haven't been working on the GTA much, but I just put chrome 17's wrapped in Pirelli's P-Zeros on my beater. When is the June meeting for GZ going to happen?

that sucks about missing the power tour.. it really rocked. i took the day off from work and showed my 01 there.. it was cool being part of the power tour.

flyers may be a good idea. I can probably print up a couple, enough to hand out and stuff.. the key though to me is to get those of us on here together and see if we will do the meeting first. if we3 are going to do it, then we can really get things going, and then maybe we can broaden out to others that may not be on here you know?

The June meeting is today at 5 at the cruise in at fat boys. I wont be there long as we're celebrating my wifes bday and have to be at the comedy house theater by say, 630 ish..

Don't know about joining a car club, but I am looking for a decent 3rd gen chassis. Prefer V8 5 speed, T top car. I will have to keep tuned to know in advance of your get togethers.

well id say starting a thirdgen club would be premature, but i did think it would be nice to get the columbia area third gens together to hang out and talk for a while which is what i was tyring to do, but it looks as though there is no desire for that type of a meeting..

I may go out of my way to talk to the local owners of the 2 cars I mentioned. Heck, if you own a third gen, you can't be all bad. The other 2 Camaro owners were the nephew of my former boss and his wife.

How many third gen enthusiasts do you think there are in the Columbia area? Drumming up support for this type of meeting seems like it's now going to be a difficult task. There's only like 4 third gens in your club, right?

Steve, give me some sort of prior warning (or update your webpage ) before your July GZ meeting. I may drop by. I need to get juiced about my GTA again and finish some open projects.

hehe ok. Talking to folks we dont know is probably a good idea, however I know in my club alone, there are the following thirdgens.

Me - I own 2.
Andrew M. Black 91 with grey hood
Garrett - Burgandy 88 GTA
Danielle - Red 85 Z28
Josh - Green 91 RS
Jared - White 91 RS
John, - dunno color, dont know year know car is needing motor though thirdgen

folks i know that have one but not in club

Melissa - Red 92 RS
Shawn - Green 92 RS with White Stripes

So if i can get all of those to commit, plus you, there's at least 9 thirdgens. (i cant bring both mine, and right now purples carb is hosed )

I dont know if i can get all of them to commit to coming though.

If we can find others through this forum, and maybe through the fatboys cruise in this july 8th, we might be in business. say maybe towards the end of july.. we could possibly print up flyers to pass round the cruise in...

We're planning our meeting for July now.. looks like its gonna be on a sunday the 16th, around 5 or 6 pm at fire mountain on harbison, but i dont know that for sure yet.

If you wanna join the GZ forums go ahead and do so, but itll probably give you a error afterwards, then i gotta approve you as a user.. then your good to go..

that would be cool, and you'd be more than welcome. We could also extend this to folks all over the state if they'd wanna travel to a little get together as well.

Wattsyurz: if you're looking for a chassis that's stripped and prepped (not a roller but all the parts are there), 89 Firebird may still have his in parts over near congaree.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-firebird.html

If you're looking for a roller that needs work you may try Brocks. They're in South Congaree as well.

I will try to make the Fat Boys thing in July myself.

Interested, sure. I'll probably be in my 85 black and gold TA. It's a little worn but still prettier than the camaro right now.

you might want to try posting this up on FastGM.com.... if we get a group of you Cola guys on there, we could make your own section on the board.

most likely not.. a cruise out to there, hanging out and coming back would takeup the entire day... i usually have freetime in the evening on the weekend, but i probly cant spend an entire day driving just to hang out for a few... maybe if it was a larger event planned ahead of time or something... btu then again, i didnt go to the Fbody meet, or the power tour stop.. lol

you really missed a good one with the power tour.. perhaps we can plan this in advance for july, say the 30th.. or somethign, and get the word out to plan it as a third gen meeting for everyone to plan it and see what we can do to get it togehter.

ok, 7/30/06 is a sunday, we'll have an informal meet of 3rd gens only at The Flying Saucer, Columbia SC location.. its downtown Columbia, off of park street and assembly street. you can find out more about the place at The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium - www.beerknurd.com I'll try to get as many thirdgens up there as possible. Everyone else do the same. No events.. just a meet to hang out and talk and meet everyone..

Say run from oh, 130ish until... we are done.

Drive your Third gen there!

Saw a black RS at Fat Boys but it was kind of lonely. I was only there about an hour with my daughter and nephew, so I must have missed you guys.

Moving to Columbia

Wow, Glad to hear things are active in your area. No one in South florida will even wave to each other. Kind of why I'm moving. Unfortunately, I won't be up there until next month. If you have a get together toward the end of next month, I'd try to make that. In the mean time, I'll be looking for storage and shops. Any emails or pm's with recommendations would be appreciated.

well if this goes well the first time im sure we'll try to make it more regular, if not even perhaps monthly. I think that would be really cool, and perhaps the ultimate goal if we can get participation... its been really dead, but i'd love to have it so we'll see what we can do.

As for storage? you mean for house items or automotive? shops? to work on your rides or just parts?

there are *some* but ive not had any of my work done anywhere motor wise.. if i cant do it, it usually just dont get done.

Yes, storage for a car and a trailer. Shops for mods and tuning. Just looking to meet people in the area.

I DON"T WANT TO HIGHJACK THIS THREAD so PM's and emails appreciated.

Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd, especially on a regular basis. SO I hope your cruise afternoon/night turns into a regular thing.

Bob

It's cool about hyjacking!! no prob!!

Well Im kinda a Camaro NUT case.. You can ask any of my friends and they say im camaro crazy to a fault almost.

As for the little get together, ANYONE who owns, or likes or loves the thirdgen camaros/firebirds is welcome.

*I HOPE* that we will drive our thirdgens there, of course, as its part of the idea. other than that its just an informal meet up of people. Perhaps it can blossom into something monthly or more than that.. but we'll see.. participation isnt the greatest for camaro clubs in my area - I.E. There arent any.

Hope to see you all there!!

cool. I got the car running last night. It seemed to do a good bit better than before with the new plugs. I do think however that Ive got a timing issue i have to address. It runs with the 600 and stays running, so ill switch over to the 750 again just to see what happens. Ill keep you updated.. at this rate.. Im going to be there with her, if she will act right!

I may even see if i can get emily or one of my buddys to drive my droptop.

I know of a place on platt springs road, that sells "used" tires.. They got good enough tread to get by until you can afford something better, and they hold air. Its near the post office on platt springs road.. lemme know if you need / want better directions and I'll help if i can.

I blew up my clutch master cyl last night trying to bleed my slave... so depending on when the parts get here and I find time to put it in I may or may not be there....

Ok, we're a week and 2 days out from this. I really hope you all are going to come with your third gens, and I hope that you all really will / are / have been spreading the word to other third gen owners as well.

Good news on my front though...

it appears that the old purple people eater is in working condition after all. I swapped plugs, put the old 750 back on her, and fired her up and timed her.. she seems to be running without issues now.. soooo.. I should have her down there without issues.

I can tell you right now that I am 75% sure I wont make it. My car refuses to go in gear and I am replacing the engine wiring harness... I have the harness but I am running low on time and cash so if I cannot get it fixed by friday then I will be a no show.

I'll hang with you and have a beer. Not sure how a bad wiring harness keeps it from going into gear..(parts for my camaro are still in the garage and I had a three day weekend, er, I mean one day on the car and two days of "family time".)

The wiring harness is just top of the to-do list, I had been using a 2.8 harness on my 350 now I have the proper one.
The car will not go into gear due to slave cylinder misunderstanding.
If I get the both done... then we can work on getting to SC...

Anyone of you dudes know anyone selling a rear end?
