Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Betty and I have been to two gatherings so far. We also do several other car shows during the year. I honestly have not seen the kind of bad attitudes that some think that they are going to encounter at the gathering. Everyone gets what they want out of the gatherings. We always have a great time, and I am on a strict car budget. A good many 5th gen owners have expressed an interest in my lowly turdgen, some requesting to check the car out inside and under the hood. She is nothing special, just an 1986 mostly original TA in stock form. As for the blow-hards, let them have their thunder. For the most part the gatherings resemble a large family reunion. As for some complaining about how fast everyone was drivng to outside events, there was a fatal accident several years ago in front of the hotel. There was a real fear that the gatherings would be banned after that incident. At G-13 when everyone went to the Varsity, we fell in the group about mid-way. I was driving 90 down I-75 and the pack leaders were pulling away from me. About that time, some idiot in a mini van pulled right in front us, than nearly stopped. I found out real fast just how inadaquate stock 3rd gen brakes are in a panic situation. It scared Betty to the point that she threatened not to ride in the car any more, unless I drive "like I have some sense." There were several speeding tickets issued that day, and when we rolled by the GHP at 60 MPH, the officer gave us the thumbs up. I was lucky, because I did not wreck and did not get a ticket and loose my old fart insurance discount. It was quite a site to see the Varsity parking lot filled with F-bodies.The last thing that I want to do is to run over some mini van full of kids and kill somebody. Racing needs to be done on on a closed track, not on the highway. For those of you that have a need for speed, there are several tracks near by, and at some gatherings in the past people have gone to those tracks and done some racing. Let me know if you do, and I will come, watch, take some pictures, and put em on the website for all to enjoy. At G-14 when we went to Joe's Crab Shack, everyone stayed around 60 to 65, and we rolled in as a group. It was a good run!

It's on Memorial Day weekend every year. This year it starts on Friday May 27th, and ends on Monday May 30th.

nothing has been offically listed on thier site but its always on the memorial day weekend. within the next month i would expect it coming together and we can make reservations and entries.
i am going to be there. i have a few friends so far joining me from the savannah area. as it gets closer, i would like to organize this a little more, so we can "convoy" to the show. anyone interested pm me.

I'd like to convoy but ill be coming from the Loganville, Ga area. So that wouldnt work out. I would like for the 3rd gen members to all line up and park next to each other though. that be cool. If we can get this organized

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

My name is Jim and I organize the judging for the Gathering. All the comments on here have been good, fair, and informative. The responses to questions have been 95% correct, and 86WS6 has a firm grasp on the show and the intent. In answer to some of the "gray" areas, I can offer some explanations.

BlueZee....your spoiler will NOT put your car in the pro class.....awsome car, and craftsmanship, by the way!

The V-6 class is an option. Every year someone glares at me regarding this class. Some V6 owners get upset when I suggest this class and demand to compete in the standard classes. Other V6 owners get upset when I fail to recognize their car as a V6 and fail to offer this class. I say if you're smiling on the way home, that's all that matters. Yes the V6 class is for all year, make, and model F-bodies. We usually reserve 10 trophies for this class and have yet to give all ten away because fewer that ten cars register for the class.

Yes the show has been fourth gen heavy, and will probably gravitate more toward the fifth gens. I believe this is because these cars are easier to jump in and drive a long distance because they are new. The awards are equally distributed among all generations, and I can promise everyone the Gathering staff does not discriminate. There would be more third gens there if you didn't stay home.

I was credited with the following statement 5-6 years ago: "The Gathering is a party where a car show broke out". I believe the majority of attendees feel this way, and I hope this sentiment continues for years to come.

There are several judging options:
1) After you register for the show, stop at the white canopy outside the registration office, and get your car classified for the judging by year, make, and number of modifications.
2) After you register for the show, stop at the white canopy outside the registration office, and sign up for the reunion class. This class is open to everyone, and you do not have to even wash the car to be elegible. We award the ten most memorable cars in this catagory.
3) After you register for the show, bypass the white canopy outside the registration office completely, and have a good time. You will not be elegible for any awards, but then you have nothing to stress over either.

By the way I own two third gens, and do practice what I preach. My 89 'vert driver "Ragged" was parked in the Rev Zone last year.

I'd love to go but I'm not too keen on driving my car all the way there and then leaving it outdoors overnight. I don't have a tow vehicle and trailer.

Regarding the 5th gen complaints, look at it this way - somebody has to teach the new guys about their cars' history... There's more to the Camaro than Gen 5 and 1969.

The majority of the cars are covered and left out overnight, and never had an issue. About 25 rooms overlook the parking lot.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Hey Jim, glad to hear you'll be at G15. We're looking forward to it.

kmk, if you call the hotel and ask for a room facing the parking lot, you can look down and check on your car any time! It's an awesome view. We've got the same room both times we have been. Great show for all years of F-bodies. 200 plus cars I believe. Biggest danger to cars is the police that ride through at times. But I think they target the Henessey cars!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

being a third gen owner and going to two shows so far, i have never felt like an outcast or snubbed at by any participant, visitor, or show staff. it felt more like being at a reunion.
i like the idea of parking alot of third gens together, but at the least, i just want to see more of us up there. im traveling up there with some friends, which include all generations represented.
its going to be a great weekend.
im not worried about being parked overnight. to my knowledge, there hasnt been any problems. however, i do recall a honda or import of somekind parked in the show area that the owner didnt move. the next morning it was up on cinderlocks with some chaulk comments written around it.

So if you reserve 10 trophies and only 8 are registered in that class...everyone gets one? Or are the 10 broken up 2 per generation?

that's actually a good point, except for the fact that for all of the 1st gen and most of the 2nd, there wasn't a V6 offered. (straight 6, yes... LOL, maybe the classification should be "Cylinder challenged" just to be PC (that way if somebody shows up with a iron duke they don't feel left out)

Awards, trophies, who gives a big crap. That kind of nonsense is a big part of what ruins events. Buy a damn cookie cake with your car drawn on it and come to a show and actually SHOW.

As the judging criteria says on the show website.........classes may be further broken up by the show staff. We haven't felt the need to further break down the V6 class, as it has never been filled. I for one hope this becomes an issue in the future.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Hi Jim, Thanks for the clarifying everything for all of us, newbe's, old-timers, and one Alzhiemer-timer. I am always concerned that I will quote somebody incorrectly and cause a problem. Thanks for stepping in and straighting everything out. Andy over at the Gathering E-mailed me a couple of days ago. It looks like they have the G-15 site up and running. Andy said that all we have to do to have a TGO parking area is to list Thirdgen.org as our club affiliation. Our plans are to be there, registered as TGO members.

Plans are to attend for third time, 2nd time with MY car, and yes will put TGO as club. Jeff and Jordan I believe did so last year too (camaronewbie & grngryoutmyway). Danny seems to like his spot down in front but I'm sure he can be coerced into putting it down too. I'll ask a few others as it gets nearer. You been peeking in on the thread Mark?

Yeah, late summer of '10. Did a T56 swap to a well, a T56. Was a learning experience as I did the work by myself, which I feel pretty proud of as I'm a gearhead in training.

I will be there again parked in TGO, and I will be having a good time. If anyone wants to do the same, come on!! It would be great to get a nice big group of 3rd gens, some of us have been trying for a while to get a nice sized group. So quit complaining and get a spot! lol

It's not a classic car show, so of course there are more second gens than first, more thirds than seconds, more fourths than thirds and probably more fifth gens than fourths this year. There just newer and more abundant. But lets get a good 3rd gen show up and give them all a run for there money. Lets get everyone else complaining about how there are too many thirdgens there!! We could take it over!!

It is not a super competitive show, like Jim said it's more of a party with car show on top. Every club has their clicks and there are a lot of groups of friends there, they are all different. But I have never met anyone that didn't want to talk about Camaro's or had a bad or snobby attitude. Met a ton of great people and some great times over the years. Cant wait for this year, looking forward to seeing everyone and their cars and havin some fun!

Dates have been announced if you guys didn't see, same as always!

If I had my car, I'd consider going back. Back at G10, I was told a picture was taken of a guy that took my car. If I can get this guy, he will pay!!!!

86WS6, Scott only said he wanted your car because mine wasn't there! Everybody knows he's a Camaro guy and loves the IROC-Z.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Yeah. Scott took it. He needed to get back to the event from where we had a club photo shoot. I tossed him the keys since he's commented many times that he loved his old IROC-Z. Getting the keys back wasn't as easy as it was handing them over to him either!

They tried playing a joke on me and told me that Scott accidentally locked the keys in the car when he parked it. They removed the door key from my key ring and left the keys in the ignition with the doors locked. The car was parked outside the dinner area where the 5th gen concept was going to drive out later. Scott wanted one car from each generation to cruise the parking lot with the concept. I noticed rather quickly that the door key was missing from the key ring since those are the only keys on it!!

Since Scott was not part of the 3rd generation Camaro, I won't have him sign my car like some have, but I did let him drive it.

Good one! You had me going for a while. So you are going to be there? And everyone knows that no Camaro will hold a candle next to a Firebird. HA!

Probably not. The Hot Rod Power Tour starts the following weekend and I'd like to do that since it starts in Cocoa Beach. Of course, this is all based on work and getting the time to do it.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I hoped to have gone last year but didn't get anywhere near making my car road worthy. This year I might be able to have it all done by then I'm just about to get my engine work all done and hopefully get my car painted in time for G-15 and enter the v6 class, I wouldn't expect to win anything but I'm darn proud of the fact that I've done 100% of the work to my car on my own plus the car is like a family member been in the family since new. If I don't make it this year I will be there next year for sure.

So... Is there going to be a TGO section? And is there an option to park but not enter the show?

Just dont fill out the card at the tent to skip the judging. I dont see why you would, not like it costs anything extra, just a judge comes and ogles your car for a few minutes

The G-15 website was acitvated at 10:48 AM 03/27/2011. We are registered from Thursday May 26 to check out Monday May 30. For our club affiliation, we listed Thirdgen.org. Lets have a good showing from TGO! Don't forget to register for the show and your hotel separately. See you there.

Registered last week. Hopefully the 89 formy will be ready by then.
If not I do have a 93 T/A that I can drive up in. I am really hoping to have the '89 ready - it will be close if I drive it up.

I hope to meet some of you in person.

Make sure you introduce yourselves at the classification canopy in the parking lot.

<-- There.

Probably gonna register "reunion" though. I don't care so much about the trophies...I'm just looking to have a good time and hang out with some cool folks.

Also I'm a G5,8,9,11 vet...so some of you guys may recognize me, although I'm in a different car now. Sort of.

Too Cool!

I wonder how much it would costs to have a TGO banner made?

We are going to make Turdgen history!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

How many cars typically show?

I'm considering it now... my buddy took a job in ATL and has a gated parking garage at his place in Atlanta that I can use. I imagine the hotel area is a safe place; I'm more concerned about theft and vandalism, not rain. Do you have to stay at the hotel to do the event?

Looks like about 680 miles round trip. I know a ton of the local Camaro5 folks are going (yeah I post there and tag along to their car events), but I'd register as TGO.

Typically anywhere from 200-300 cars show up.

Honestly it's way easier to just stay at the hotel. That's where the whole event/party takes place. As far as theft or vandalism goes it's very unlikely. At g13 the ZR1 was left unlocked in the parking lot nearly the whole event.

As far as coming down with the camaro5 guys cool the more the merrier. Just remember if you choose to register with TGO as your club you will have to park with the 3rd gens. So register as what ever club you want to park with.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

You don't have to stay at the hotel, and there are always a few guys with buddies in Atl that just stay with their friends and "commute" to the show each day. In the four Gatherings that I've been to, I've never heard of any real problems with theft or vandalism. Everybody that goes to these things loves these cars and as such it's a good atmosphere, and the local police patrol the lot at night just to be certain.

There will be LOTS of cars.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

There is pretty much someone in the parking lot the whole time. By the time the parties end someone is getting up to clean their car or getting breakfast. I wouldn't be too worried, but you are not required to stay at the hotel. Just a lot easier! We only live 20 minutes away but we usually get a room anyways so I'm not driving home at 4 in the morning

The only problem that I have ever heard of was last year when a police officer turned his patrol car around in the early AM and bumped one of the 5th gens.
