Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

My first year bringing a 3rd gen. LOL! I had to say bye bye to my 4th gen after it blew up its second motor. But to stay in the game a little cheaper and still build a good car i bought a 87 Trans am that Ive been working on it for 2 weeks straight since the day I bought it to get her to as best as she can for this year. Cant wait to see everyone and have a blast as usual!!!
The 4th gen

The new 3rd gen when I got it home

Nice ride. I wished I had a little more money. I have 2 3rd gen Firebirds, one is a GTA, and 2 3rd gen Camaro's for sale about 2 miles from my house. Driving me nuts seeing them sitting there, and I don't have any money to buy either of them. The wife wants a 3rd gen firebird.

I unfortunately won't be making it to G15 like I planned. My wife is finishing up the last of her college courses and being a part-time student we have to pay out of pocket instead of taking out a student loan. So that means that I'm going to ThirdGen Fest because it's about half the distance away and the cost for me will be significantly cheaper.... maybe next year!
Sorry you won't be able to make it. I was really looking forward to seeing your car. Hopefully it will be next year!

Wish me luck, car is going into the shop tonight. Tranny swap. Hope we don't run into any issues, otherwise, I may not be making it to my first show.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

So are we going to pull our canopies and chairs together, uniting under the third gen banner? If so, I would like to suggest that everyone bring what they can for our display. There has been ideas to go with both an fbody and a pirate theme. Ill be bringing both fbody and pirate related items. So say we all?

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

There was a post a few days ago from one member who's thirdgen is not running and is going to be arriving in a fourthgen. I don't have any problems with other gens parking with the group, as long as the rest of you are cool with it. The people are much more important that the cars, as long as the person is a thirdgener at heart.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I just found out that Greenlight models is going to produce a 1987 1:18 scale Trans AM in blue and silver similar to my 1986 car, Amanda. The model is as close as any diecast maker will probably ever come to making my exact car. Greenlight used a 1986 that belongs to a member of the Kentucky F body club as the prototype for a 1987 1:64 limited edition model a couble of years back. The story that I heard is that their license only included 1987 and up, so they changed the year by one, and since the 87's had the body colored spoiler instead of that black rubber thing, they are easier to paint. The 1:64 model was a hardtop as is the prototype. The 1:18 scale will be a T top car, like mine. I am not claiming that Greenlight they used my car as the prototype for this new model, but I can tell you for a fact that Greenlight Models has several photos of my car. I sent the photos in early 2010. It was probably one of several cars that they based the new model on, as are many diecast models. The production is limited to 1500 units. I have ordered two from two separate diecast retailers, just in case there is a problem with one of the orders. Too bad the release date is September, so I will have to wait for G-16to bring the model.Just some useless info, but I had to share it with someone. 7 more days till G-15!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Well, Tranny is in the car. I am excited now. We worked all night to get it replaced. We were shocked to see that the U joints were original, and that they really were not that bad. We went ahead and replaced them, after all they only have almost 320k miles on them, lol. Car is almost ready. Just need to change the plugs, do some minor shift adjusting on the Tranny, wash, and load it.

Hey tony, sounds good to me. Not an owner of a canopy but it would be nice. (Not that it ever rains there on Mem day weekend of course). Will see what we can add to Charles's banner (nice going by the way).

My canopy is 10 x 20 so it is big enough for lots of people and lots of stuff. Honestly we will not be spending that much time out there, as both of us are getting old and we both have some serious health problems. We will be out there some during the day, but will go rest in our room from time to time, and will not be out there much at night. I may put one chair under the thing, and the rest is wide open for what ever. I promise that we will not get in anyone's way, and you all are welcome to use our canopy for what ever suits your needs. The canopy solid white, pretty tall and will look great with the banner across the front of it. Some help putting it up and taking it down will be appreciated, otherwise everyone have lots of fun!!!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

Charles, we'll be coming in friday afternoon and be glad to help. I just bought a new 12x12 canopy- but I am not sure I can fit it in the car with our other stuff!! in the case- it's about 5' tall, so I have to go home today and see if i can wedge it in there. lol

I am finally done polishing wheels- the previous owner had neglected them badly and I have worn out some buffing wheels getting them back in shape. now on to a bath and fresh wax...

can't wait til the weekend, hope the forecast improves some.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I am sure that there will be plenty of available canopy space, so don't worry about trying to wedge a canopy into your car with you and your family.

I will also have a 10 x 10 Fast Up just in case we need an extra canopy. I am planning on putting up the 10 x 20 but we will have an extra if we find that we need it. Thanks for the assistance putting up the big canopy.

Since we trailer our car there is no problem bringing extra stuff. The more weight I haul, the better the F-350 rides. Load it light and it rides like a pulp wood truck. Load it heavy and it rides like a Lincoln, excuse me, Cadillac...

Do I need to bring some extra chairs, or coolers? Just say the word and they will be onboard. Too bad we can't have a BBQ in the parking lot... We could roast a pig...

Everyone, be careful traveling to ATL. It will be a great weekend! We will be the Turdgen event of the year.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

All cars will all crap out sooner or later. My Trans AM only has 29K original miles on it, and it crapped out on us at the 2009 Fall Rod Run in Pegion Forge. We were headed back to our cabin from supper, and the lights got so dim, I thought we would have to light a candle to see if they were on. Long story short the OEM altenator went bad.

The land lord at the cabins loaned me his battery charger, so we trickle charged the battery all night. The next AM, I drove two blocks to the NAPA in Gatlinburg to get one. Figured I would install it in the parking lot. The parts book was incorrect, and the altenator that was listed would not fit the car.

A quick call to the next NAPA store, and the clerk said that he had the one that fit my car. I drove the car to the Sevierville NAPA on battery power only, and the car stalled with a dead battery as I rolled into the driveway. His altenator was not correct either, so there I sit broken hearted...

The manager was nice enough to charge my battery, and I also purchased two new group 24 marine batteries that I would use to get back home across the mountain, and then I could use them in our boat. I made it back to the cabin in Gatlinburg, just in time to have the freshly charged battery go dead. We put a quick charge on it while we loaded the car.

We made it to Newfound Gap in the Great Smoky Mountians National Park, pulled into the overlook, swapped one of the fresh marine batteries into the car, with a side terminal/top terminal kit, tied it down with a bungie and headed down the NC side.

The second battery took a dump in Cherokee. We pulled into a store, and swapped the third battery into the car. That battery made the last 14 miles to our house. The NAPA in Cherokee figured out which altenator fit my car, and a few days later we were back in business. The marine batteries are still living in my boat, and the side terminal/top terminal kit is hanging on a nail in the garage.

Now our old boney butts ride comfy in our F-350, and the car rides comfy in her trailer. As long as the F-350 does not crap out we should be there on Thursday.

We are just about all packed. Monday, Tuseday, and Wednesday have been rough. Over the weekend we had a wildfire on the mountain behind the hospital, and the smoke was so think that the visablilty was about 10 feet all weekend. The building was full of smoke. We came close to an evacuation, but decided to tough it out. Several staff members got sick from the smoke, so we worked short handed. I worked all weekend, and got sick on Monday AM. The smoke triggered my asthma. Two solumedrol shots later and bunches of other medications, an I believe that I may be improving. We came close to canceling coming to the gathering.

A few more items and we will be loaded. We should be out of here by 10 AM, making a stop in Dawsonville GA to Flags Georgia to pick up some pirate gear for the party Saturday night. I got the canopy out and set it up to check for any problems and to make sure it was clean. I was wrong about the size. It is not a 10 x 20. It is a 12 x 20. We should be arriving at the Marriot around 3PM. Hope everyone has a safe trip! See you there.

Well, since I registered late, I guess I don't get one of the only 7 spots allotted for thirdgen.org... unless, of course, that's all we have registered! Seems unusually low!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

got a question... I'm already planning on making the drive from texas to atlanta for next year's gathering, but it's going to be very difficult for me to make it there by friday.
I know the car judging is on saturday, if I arrived Friday evening, would it be too late to get my car entered for judging on saturday?

again, this is for NEXT year.

The schedule says it has tech/classification on both Friday and Saturday morning. I won't show up until Friday evening.

I saw that, but I wasn't sure what it meant. Like for example, is that when your car get classified for which group it will be judged in? I would hate to drive all that way just to be too late.

We arrived at 2:45 PM today. I spoke to Chad one of the organizers about a spot to place my 12 x 20 canopy which is for the use of our whole group. He moved the first group over to the general f body parking and freed up 4 spots. We have the canopy set up on one and a half spots, which leaves two and a half spots extra plus the seven. There may be a place for you to park with the group.

I stopped at the Flags Georgia store in Dawsonville today. I bought two 3 x 5 pirate flags and two 3 x 5 American flags for our display. Tony bought some pirate flags and pirate stuff, so with the banner I had made we are on our way to a decent club display. Don't count on winning though, because High Octaine at the Rev Zone has two large screen TV's, a microphone, karokee machine and a bunch of other stuff. The party is in full swing.

Sounds good! Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of pirate gear, though

I'll be leaving FL around 1 PM tomorrow so I'll be getting in around evening time... hopefully I'll be good to go registering for the car show!

That would be me.
The "black hole", which I affectionally call my 93 TA, is polished, steamed and treated - aka ready to go. I appreciate the offer, but it seems you have a few 3rd gen cars to fill up your 7-11 club spots. I have a friend with driving his 98 SS as well. I will be nearby though.

Unfortunately, my friend with the 98 SS got golfball sized hail about 2 hours ago. Haven't been able to reach him, but he says dented or not G15 or bust! I did not receive this weather even though I am about 45 minutes away.

Will be there 'bout 4-5ish tommorrow, see ya!
Just look for the black 93 T/A hardtop. Lowered w/ black rims.
Don't leave any loose money around it - it will suck it in and you will never see it again - like a black hole!

Don't worry about pirate gear. We have enough for the display. There is a party store close if you want to get pirate clothing for Saturday night. I may just go as an old fat dude.

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

if i get there after registration sign-in closes at 7- do i just go park in the third gen area for the night? when i registered i requested to park with TGO. it's iffy whether the wife will get off work early today so we can get on the road early enough to make it by 7. hoping to get there before dark and avoid the need for a full on wash job.

It was good talking and seeing those that showed up. I finally made it back to Memphis. It was a hot weekend, and I am sun burnt to a crisp, guess that is what I get driving my car from Atlanta to Memphis today with the tops off and the wind blowing!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

I have to say it was a good weekend and everyone enjoyed themselves. I was glad to see some old and new faces. I think the count was about 30 third gens that were there. the TGO team looked as a good and strong. I want to extend my thanks to charlie for bringing the canopy and pirate gear. lets plan this gain next year.

You are most welcome. The canopy will be back next year, even if the old fat owner goes for frequent naps in the hotel. Tony, thanks for everything that you contributed to G-15. Everytime I seen you, you were having fun, and fun is contagous.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and for building those great thirdgen maros. We were the TURDGEN FORCE of G-15. Lots of serious thirdgenners this year, and lots of Great Looking Thirdgen cars. You'all impressed the s*** out of me. Thanks!

It is time that thirdgen owners were taken seriously, and it seems that is now the case. I purchased my first thirdgen 28 years ago, and have been waiting all this time for them to gain the respect that they deserve. Lets take over at G-16, and put some fear in the hearts of all those 4th and 5th genners .

I had a great time, and my T/A did wonderfully 920 miles and not one issue! Yay!

Re: F-body Gathering G-15 Atlanta, Ga.

i'm planning on being there, but it's a 12 hour drive, so that's pretty huge for me

Thirdgen roundup had 48 cars in just its 2nd year, no major promotion. any idea why there aren't more thirdgens at such a large event as g15?

4th gens ruled for several years.

At G-13 a lot of people bought new 5th gens, and brought them straight to the show. Some 4th gen folks grumbled about it. We have even lost some regular attendees, however Chad told me that the total numbers were up this year.

We attended our first time at G-13. There were few 3rd gens, not sure of the actual number, but we did not see many. At G-14 there were a few more. Maybe thirdgen owners have just started to discover the gatherings???

At G 14 a pristine perfect red 3rd gen Camaro earned Best in Show, and my TA earned Best Firebird. Both awards were picked and awarded by Scott Settlemire. I honestly think that it hurt some people's feelings to see both the 5th gen group onslaught of the gatherings, and the 3rd gen group begin to win some top awards. Scott did not award a Best in Show or runner up this year, and no one has said why they changed it. One can only guess...
