New and just want to say hi
New to third gen and new to owning a third gen. Always wanted one and traded my full size blazer for a decent 87 ttop GTA. I was 8 when these things came out and new one day I would own one so 30 years later I have a daily driver that needs minor TLC to turn it into a very solid car. Anyway just wanted to say hi to everyone and if anyone is around the Anniston Alabama area hit me up.

Re: New and just want to say hi
It's a 87 305 car, runs great for a car found in a field for the past 10 years. Went through the fuel/ignition system. All new brakes and suspension bushings, new tires. Right now I'm driving it daily and my face hurts from smiling so much. The seats were ratted out so I bolted in a leather set from a fourth gen but will be getting originals redone soon. Car has a lot of options for a 87 such as the self adjusting rear view mirror but the thing that confuses me is it has drum brakes. I don't know alot of details on the GTAs but assume they came with rear disk. Maybe y'all can school me on this.

Have you found your SPID sticker yet? Look in your center console or the hatch storage for it. It will give your RPO codes and you can decode each one. This will tell you what the car originally came with. Most likely the car did come with drum rear.

Thanks, I will go out at lunch and look for it. I will let you know what I dig up. I was wondering where I could find the RPO codes.

The rpo codes are either in the the center console or rear hatch door compartment on the drivers side. J65 is the rpo code for rear disc. Rear disc was always optional for any model 3rd gen, and drums were standard even for GTA. The ttops and 305 combination probably has a lot to do with it since drums are most commonly found that way. I think the only time rear disc were mandatory were on 87 350 irocs which got you everything. If your GTA was an original 350 car it had a better chance of getting rear disc, but the it wouldn't of been with ttops since the 87 350 GTAs were all hardtops.

Yeah I can tell they are, I've spent alot of time just tweaking minor issues. I'm really lucky that this thing has remained almost completely unmodified all these years. Someone did do the egr delete and put the wrong size injectors with an adjustable regulator on it. Couldn't wrap my head around why they did this to a stock 305 Tpi. I have corrected the injectors and it no longer loads up at idle. My wife asked who laid all the black marks Infront of our house. She's gonna be mad when she has to replace my brand new tires with more new tires. Yes indeed these cars are addictive. I've had lifted fullsize Chevy's trucks a really nice lifted Jeep and a decent 69 Camaro but this GTA is by far my favorite. I dreamed of these cars as a little boy. I feel like a child hood dream is sitting in my driveway.
