What to do on Saturday April 5th
The date for the SW Gathering is finalized as April 4-5th 2003. Whew.
We need to start working out the details for the Saturday cruise/events. A Mt. Lemmon (sp?) cruise has been suggested. If a meeting location could be arranged and a start time agreed on, I would think the plans for this gathering would almost be in the bag.
Here's another piece of information/wrinkle:
AZFBA (Arizona F-Body Association http://www.azfba.com) is planning a cruise from Phoenix to Tuscon April 5th. They also plan on participating in the car show that takes place on Speedway on Saturday night, showing up at the car show as a convoy coming down Speedway. I personally think it would be awesome if we could join them, to get as many f-bodies together for that cruise down Speedway as possible. That would also give some incentive to the people unable to attend Friday's festivities to come down and meet us for something on Saturday. The only details to be worked out (to my knowledge) is when/where the Speedway convoy would start.
AZFBA has made it plain that anyone can join up with them on Saturday for the cruise down to Tuscon from Phoenix, but requested that to join them, they would prefer you would be driving an f-body. Contact me if you need details on that cruise.
I have arranged for a website to disseminate as much of this information as possible, and that web site *should* be up later today. Stay tuned.

I say we meet at the Bookman's parking lot on the SW corner of Speedway and Wilmot. It is a good location and very large. We could meet up at about 9:00 pm because crusing doen't start until about 10. That would give us some time to dust off the cars and chat for a while. Just my thoughts. Thomas

89FRMLA350, you know the saying, "they can't catch them all"! It looks like close to 20 3rd and 4th gens have said they are coming from Phx for this Speedway thing!
Ok, website is up! SW Gathering
The website contains a downloadable printable flyer to distribute. I'm still working on a smaller "signature block" style one.
Where is a good place for breakfast on Saturday morning before the cruise and then a meeting place for the cruise Saturday morning?
The speedway meeting is secondary to the SW Gathering cruise information at this point. I'll let AZFBA and the Tucson F-Body club work out the Speedway meeting information, and we'll join them there.

I'm so excited about this whole yet I am also sad about it too, this sounds like so much and a great opprutunity to meet a lot of other f-body enthusiasts. But I'm sad because I probably won't be able to make it.
My parents made me quit my job because my grades were sliding so I don't have a whole lot of income coming in right now...Hopefully I will see you all there, if not Have fun and get some pictures posted on the net for me to see.

A Sonic lunch and a Hooter's dinner sounds decent. BTW Hooter's is where AZFBA is planning on eating.
Anyone with any ideas about where to meet before the cruise?

Sonic and Hooters, what a great day!
About where to meet before the cruise, read the second post. So far, it seems to be the best idea.
We might want to reconsider this Mt. Lemmon thing. I dont want to drive my car up there. The last time we went was in a front-wheel drive minivan, and it got stuck. There is very little parking up there. I will try to come up with a different drive. Anyone have any ideas? It doesnt have to be a drive, it could be anything that a group of people would like to do.

I'll forward that Saturday night meeting place along to the AZFBA, but it sounded like they had a place picked out already.
With gas prices the way they are, maybe a trip to an arcade or putt-putt place? Are there any autocross or other racing events going on in Tucson that weekend that we could attend?
OR we could find a car wash somewhere and take it over! After driving down and racing all night, it would be nice to find a place to wash the car and get it ready for the PM cruise.
Any other thoughts??

How about
1. Breakfast at ???
2. Head over to a park and create a mini car show. That way everyone can check out everyone else's cars, or just play a few games and hang out.
3. Lunch at Sonic
4. Cruise up Mt. Lemon
5. Dinner at Hooters
Just some ideas.

I like Justin's plan. Except the Mt. Lemmon thing. Gonna cost an arm and a leg for gas. Plus the parking thing.
If anyone wants, we could do a picture taking thing on base by some of the planes that we have on display (B52 and C130 to name a few). That would make a nice group photo. I would need to get a head count on that, as I would have to turn in a list to my boss to get everyone on base. Basically, I would need to know who wants to come on base, and all of the drivers license numbers w/state of issue. (Anybody with warrants or just plain bad guys cant come on base
). We do have several large parks to have a BBQ or something.
Just a thought. Thomas

Well hopefully I will get to join in some of the festivities on Friday night. It will be great to meet some more AZ guys. Saturday is definately a no show though. I kind of have a prior appointment, like getting married.
Oh, well, hope to see a few of you on Friday.
Eric.......................no the other one.

A wedding! Why marriage is a fine institution, I'm personally not ready to be institutionalized just yet.
If we had been invited.....
Although it would be kinda nice, if, in order to leave the festivities, you had to drive through a gaunlet of third gens!
Congrats on the wedding, but we're glad you opted to spend your last night of freedom with us!

And trust me, I know. I have been married three times! Hehe!
It just gets better and better.
Hope to see all of you on Friday and Saturday.

Ah, we definately need to get a firm schedual down well in advance of the gathering.
I think everyone can agree on lunch at sonic, just need to pick a time.
Breakfast anyone? where?
And where to hang out for a mini car show? DM?
Alot of people don't really want to cruise (I lost my 2 way radios
). Thats cool. Perhaps a game of basketball or ????

There are a couple hotels around that offer "SIR" rates. Try this link for details. http://www.sirace.com/links/hotels.htm
I'm thinking my girelfriend and I are going to be at the Courtyard, but I'm waiting for a friend with connections down there to call me back.
HTH!

They are fairly close. Maybe 10-15 minutes 1 way or so. They also provide the SIR rate if you ask. I've stayed at the Courtyard before and thought it was nice.

I unfortunately have to decline on the offer, I really. really wanna go but I just got my car running and even though it seems to be running really strong I don't quite trust it to go this far yet. That and I am unemployed now so After I buy my hi-torque starter this afternoon I will be officially broke...So thanks anyways, I will hopefully go to firebird this friday though(parents are going to pay) so if anyone wants to meet up there let me know.

It will be sweet to be able to meet all you guys and with a little luck I will have found some wheels for slicks so I can start shooting for mid 12's.
If any one has two rear wheels in a 16 by 8 I am looking to buy.... Thanks.
