Ramjet 350

Has anybody swapped a 350 ramjet with L98? Considering an engine swap into 1988 GTA-seems like a lot of engine for 4500.00, not sure if if their is hood clearance with stock hood. Have TH700r4 want to use. Appreciate any comments.

My buddy nate back home swapped a ramjet into his 82 Z. Looked great and ran like it also. You'll have plenty of hood clearance. heres a pic. he went kind of crazy with the wire loom though.

Thanks for the pics, looks like an easy swap. Do you know if the car can pass emissions? I know GM does not claim to have tested for that. Also looks as if all accessories bolted up in the picture.
The ramjet pulls up to 5200rpm? the L98 in car now is done at 4500, but it sure has a lot of low end torque.

Swap out the TPI and the cam on an L98 and it'll put a lot higher.

Yeah everything bolts up. He had to custom make a throttle cable because they dont make one specifically for that car. LEast I don't think. Also no it does not pass emissions. He had to unplug the 6 and 8th injector to make it run lean so it would pass. pretty weird but it works.

What cam and intake would you reccomend for more rpm, say 5500-6000? What about the heads, are they capable of flowing more, or think its better to invest in different ones?

thanks for reply. bought the car new in 1988 and it sat for 6 years or so, now got it running, and painted it-now I want more power. Have 135000 miles, runs pretty strong still, everything works, so many options, not sure if I should build the L98, or look for crate motor. Don't want to spend a lot

If you're starting from nothing, I'd say go with a crate motor. It's a proven working combo, in a box.

Yeah, especially if it sat for 6 years!! You may have it running now, but unless that thing got started AT LEAST once a month no telling when something may decide to commit suicide. Plus, it just sounds way more impressive to tell people you have a crate engine!

Sweet-A$$ looking car though! Really sharp!

So instead of going with the Ramjet i built a 383 with LTR and all the smog stuff. Haven't done a chip, and running street tires i ran 13.5@104mph, best 60 was 2.62
think i will put some bf goodrich drag radials on it, if i can get a better 60 i should get 12's. seems it doesn't hook up untill 3rd gear-hitting something like 115 in the traps.
here is a video http://www.raichert.com/transam/1988gta1.htm

So what you got packed in your 383?

We are going to the track on FRI if you want to join us.

FYI...These just came out, might wanna think twice before buying BFG drag radials.

coating helps it run cooler, also have coatings on piston skirts, and coating on the intake that is suppose to cool air. The heads are edelbrock with biggest valve i could get, there is only .0030 space between them- ported and flowed.
the video is an avi file, it runs off my windows meadia player. maybe i will compress it

how busy is a friday at firebird?

I know all about coating, where did you get it done and for how much?

Also, what Edelbrock heads are those, they sure look differnet than anything I have ever seen from Edlebrock, they look like TFS twisted wedge or Pro Topline combustion chambers.
