Need to get my A/C updated
I need to get my A/C converted over to the new stuff, does anyone know a good place in Tucson? I may need other A/C work as well, so I need a good place to look it over and give me an estimate. Suggestions?????
I need the same thing done to my car, and the only place that I have found that seemed to be genuinely honest in their pricing is Auto Pros on the corner of Grant and Fontana/Sixth. There was way too much discrepancy with the other folks I called. Seems to happen to me a lot... a girl calls or shows up with car questions and boom... gets taken advantage of... oh well... These guys are cool though. Tell em that Alaena in the red firebird sent ya

What kind of price did they give you???
My car is kinda old (1977) and hasn't had much A/C work done to it, so to retro-fit the entire thing they told me around $800-950. Thats for everything, R-12 included. I need to replace a lot of hoses, the orifice, and the heater core along with some other things as well. The poor thing didn't have a very attentive owner before I came along...
With a newer car (well, newer than mine
) with parts more readily available, it probably wouldn't be as much.
Their hourly rate is something like $60/hr. And that's pretty good compared to other places I have been. They charge a $65 diagnostic check, and its pretty thorough. I asked another place closer to my house how much just their diagnostic check would cost, and they told me $145!
I believe they actually fix cars up for drag racing and demolition derbys and stuff, so they seem to know a lot about older cars and sports/race cars, which is a plus for me! Some mechs at the shops freak out when they have to physically diagnose a car without computer help!

I'll give them a call. Thanks. Do you have any pics of your car?

Currently, its needing a lot of restorative work done to it. I.E. PAINT JOB! I think it still has the original paint it came with back in '77 and the heat and sun out here has taken its toll. (my red looks orange and even pink in some places
) Once I get that done, I will definitely be showing her off!

Good luck with your project car. I've had mine for 3 years and it's just now starting to look better. Now I have to work on the performance stuff, and that's only the beginning. I've had fun. Thanks for the info!

I called Auto Pro's, they quoted me $1100.00. That's for parts and labor. All the parts are new and it comes with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. They sounded very knowledgable on the phone, so I will probably go see them in person and try to get a better estimate. I don't know about putting it on myself, I don't know much about the A/C system.
