emissions
ok i have a quesiton and i dont want any of this "emissions people are idiots they will pass anything" stuff. im converting the 305 TBI to a 350 old school 650cfm holley carb, no computer, none of that ****. i will haev the EGR valves, vacuum lines, and PCV valve, and air tubes into the headers. i will have a cat on, and i will have a muffler on, and the carb will be tuned real well. i need to know:
1. will they check my computer? it's a 89 .. i dont know i believe OBDI but i hear they dont do a OBDI test on them or something?? i dont know. do they run any checks ont he computer?
2. will i pass visual? what needs to be on there/faked so i will pass.
3. do you personally believe i will be able to pass emissions?
i ask this because i have not began the restoration of the engine, it is just my intent to do so. However id o not want to go through all this only to find im ganan get a kick in the nuts by emissions. what do you think???

whats the block from, year? its actually against federal law to put an engine block in a car that is newer than the block. so any block that is made before your car cant be used. they can check the casting numbers if they want. and if you do a newer engine. i think you ahve to have all the equipment that the block had. like the smog, and intake setup etc...
but trying to pass w/ a carb will not happen. once they run your vin and see what the car should have you'll be screwed..just cause of the visual. they dont check any computer crap, atleast they havent with me.
im no expert but i think im pretty close, but someone can correct me if im wrong.
on another note. if u get a carbed car that wont pass the sniffer test. u can just retard the timing some and put a lil alchohol in the fuel tank. and turn down the idle..

that law doesnt even exist. hotrodders do it all the time putting in an LS1 engine in 1932 T-buckets, an so forth. so that doesnt have any effect. as a matter of fact the engine i have in my car is newer then my body.
now there is a law in AZ about doing engine swaps Its illegal as hell, but the good news is its not enforced.
You just need to make sure you have all of the smog
that your car came with inplace.
"but like you said the test people are idiots"

still there is no enforced law that says i cant put '69 engine in a newer car. you need to do research and see what you can find.

ok well its a 89 block going into my 89 camaro so i dont care about block dates. back to the main question, will all the visuals consist of is vacuum lines PCV valve check EGR valve check cat, air tubes into headers, and thats it? those idiots dont know a carb from a throttle body, so im not worried about that, plus it will be under teh 14" air filter so.. anywho, sniffer wise if i tune the carb way down, i should pass the sniffer as well. so is that all inspections consist of??

LOL you need to at least have the PCV valve there it does have a role in the function of an engine, I beleive that Jegs and Summit have some dressier PCV filters other then the testers not knowing what it is, it should be self explanitory. From what i've been told they check to make sure you have everything that came original on the car in place, and IRC aziroc has hard lines which prevented them from vaccum testing his ****
, oh dont forgot they do check the gas cap
they supposedly do vaccum testing i dont recall where they stick the tester into....personally if it were me and i didnt have the $ to buy headers w/AIR injection tubes installed i'd keep the old stock manifolds and switch out for inspection then rite back on they go. or if you have a way to fab AIR into the new exhaust you'd be set. basically if your car came with AIR injection you must have that on-not neseccarily working. yea running a cat or 2 and leaning out the fuel, you should be able to pass the sniffer.

When I went to get emmisions on my Camaro the day I got it, all they did was open the hood, aim a fan at it, stick a dual-piped hose on my tail pipes, run through the gears, test the cap, and go. About all they did under the hood was look at it... (Passed with flying colors, might I add!)
