The AC condensor sits completely in front of the radiator and besides reducing airflow, gets hot when the AC is on and transfers to the radiator. Since you have a new radiator, there probably isn't a bunch of leaves and junk between the two units, like most cars.

If the car overheats in traffic, just turn on the heater full-blast, the additional cooling may prevent an inopportune boil-over [of the engine, that is].

Some good examples of using airflow restriction as a temperature tool are trucks in the artic winter, running around with zip flaps covering the radiator fronts.

i wanna do the opposite of that... my car USED to run cool even with the stock radiator... never really that cool with the AC on, but now its a monster radiator compared to the stock one... i was thinkin of just using a 3600cfm single fan my roommate has in storage somewhere... i think that might do the trick...

duck - its a summit 2 core aluminum 17.25" X 26.5" core with a 1700 cfm autozone fan

bill, its runnin cool in the daytime without AC on, but the AC spells death for the temp gague... it just keeps goin up. And if i get in some traffic, the needle likes to rise... even with the fan on and AC off...

Well the first possible problem I see is that our cars use a 31x19 radiator. Might the radiator be too small?

Dave what fan setup do you have? You listed the CFM rating so I'm assuming it's aftermarket. I had some problems with running hot with the A/C on with a single fan, but I switched to dual fans and haven't had a problem since. They come on progressively, one fan at like 180* and the other when the A/C turns on or at something like 200*. Keep in mind that your temp guage could be off. If you have an ALDL setup, ride around with your laptop to see what the temp REALLY gets up to. My temp guage and the actual temp have never really jived well.

Nevermind, actually read the thread . Dual fans would prolly help out especially in the PHX heat

well, then summit's measurements are off cuz its A LOT bigger than stock... its like 3/4" wider and at least 1" taller than my OEM one...

I actually never measured the stock radiator. I'm just going on all of the aftermarket replacements I see call for a 31x19.

Yeah, there's no way a 31" radiator would fit in there:

Sorry for the large pic, had to keep the tape measure in focus.

Is it for a griffin 31X19? If so I am interested and will buy one. How did it affect the fan mount?

Yeah, that's the radiator in the pic. I made it for a stock dual fan system, it moved the fans back a little bit. You might have to clearance one of the fan arms a little to fit behind a stock wonder bar.

If you need fan mounts for something other than stock duals, I'll need measurements.

Right now I have the stock single fan with the stock shroud. I had to cut the end of the shroud back a little. I also used shims to keep the fan from rubbing. I do want to switch to aftermarket duals but am having trouble finding out which ones will give me the least fitment problems on my griffin.
