I would do it but i live in Tucson, unless you want to bring it down here. What do you mean it's knocking? Sure you don't have a loose rocker arm?

Hold on you want to rebuild a 305? I have a good runing 305 sitting in an 87 IROC with 130k miles on it, and a million people on craigs list have 305 for sale why would you want to rebuild that? My 305 Needs an oil pan though. If you where to bring it down here to get worked on It would be best for you to do it on or just before December 20 thats when school is over for me. I wouldn't take me more then a week to replace a badly running 305 with a good running 305 two or three days if everything goes over smoothly. I have a big yard and plenty of tools to do it in. If you need more time then you would have to wait tell spring brake or summer if you would like for me to do it. A big project like that would take alot of time and i wouldn't want to get stuck in the middle of it while in class.

Phoenixxx602, Auto or stick? 1989 Lb9 correct? I highly suggest finding a 87+ 350 block.
If it's an auto and you find a good block and you get the car and the motor to my house, I can do the swap for you for $500 + supplies and whatever tool rentals. It will take me 2 weeks. If you need it sooner, I can do it in one week for $750 + supplies and whatever tools.
But I don't have the knowhow or trust myself on someone elses car to disassemble a motor. I've also never worked on a manual, so I don't trust myself with a clutch assembly. I can do it, but you would have to tow it to a shop for them to do the clutch properly.
LMK on this, but good luck to you whatever you decide.

Your best bet would be to contact a machine shop, such as 5 star engine exchange, and pick up a rebuilt long block and have that put in. That way you know you have an engine that is put together correctly. Then have someone put it in for you.

Wish I had the time. I would do the rebuild for you if my business wasn't taking all my time. I did SoCrispy's engine a few months back and is running well with the work I did.
