Re: Other projects...

I've decided to graft the front clip and forward edge of the doors (The CTS is a 2 door.) I bought it to do an LSA (6.2 liter Supercharged.) and the 6-speed paddle-shift auto trans. I will also be swapping in the dash, seats, door panels (Graft.) and all electronics.
So... What are you working on?

That CTS-V/El Camino combination will be pretty sweet. Keep us posted.

Re: Other projects...

The CTS-V is in Weed, CA right now. Will be october or november before I can get up there and get it. Buying it drained all my savings! Sold an LS-7, Corvette Z-06 seats, ZR-1 wheels, Z-06 wheels (2 sets, with tires.) and $10,500 in cash. All things considered, I got a great deal, as the motor sells for more than $20,000 by itself! The car was rear ended with less than 3k miles on it, so I will be getting a fresh setup. As soon as I get it here, I will take pics. Promise!

Right now I am shopping for a body shop that wants to get their name in print. (As of now, I have at least 3 different publications interested, but I will not settle for anything less than the cover.)

Car should be done in feb 2012. (Thats the plan, anyways.)

Re: Other projects...

Eh, It's close, but not quite exact... I had a friend who is a graphic designer create it for me, and without actual measurements he was only able to guess as to scale and perspective. It looks pretty cool, and gave me an idea of what it's going to look like. The only real changes I'm going to be making are the drip rails above the windows will be shaved and all chrome will be deleted or powdercoated.

Re: Other projects...

The Elco looks interesting but I can't help thinking this would be easier if you were to convert a CTSV Wagon to a pickup bed vs trying to graft the CTSV pieces to an older Elco.

Either way, I hope it comes out the way you want it to. But that's definitely a bigger project than I want to try and tackle.

My next one is probably a LS1 79 TransAm if I don't use the engine in the 88. Depends on how the retune exercise goes this fall on the 88.

Re: Other projects...

If you can clear five figures parting it out, you're crazy to not do that, then buy another & repeat...

I always wondered if that body shoppe up NW AZ that did the Mustang fastback rebodies was one to contact for stuff like this.

LOL, It took us 5 months to find a totalled CTS-V 2-door. This is only the second one that has been totalled in the U.S. (There was a wrecked one in Dubai, but the shipping would have killed the deal.) I got really lucky with this one being wrecked up in north California where it went to a small auction with not too many buyers. One of my best friends from H.S. owns a J/Y and has been nice enough to help me get this one... Trust me, the next one I can get will also end up in my yard as well! With a production run of less than 5,000 units the 2-door is hard to come by.

there has been a cts pickup built from a wagon. he had a lot of problems with the unibody and actually had to put a nascar-style frame underneath it for strength. Also, it was too short IMO. Molding in the rear doors was his biggest challenge (Body-wise.) and took him over 1,000 hours to get "Right". I do have one fiberglass company interested in making molds of the front fenders and hood to make a conversion kit (Fiberglass.) I am not happy with the percentages, just yet, but we'll see...

Looks like a job for West Coast Customs! I have a feeling if I have a car day, I will be helping on pulling the Caddy apart. But who knows when the next car day will be with all the storms messing up my work. I hate storms and dust and anything that gets into pools!
