90' Iroc Vats

Need help, Anybody out there tried the Bakerelectronix Vats bypass system? I've got a 90 Iroc, its been sitting for three years, won't start, I changed the fuel pump, fuel regulator, distributor. I have to manually start it @ the starter solenoid, it has 40 lbs, fuel pressure @ the shrader valve, but no injector pulse. All injectors OHM @ 16, if I shoot fuel in the plenum, it fires up for an instant.

Re: 90' Iroc Vats

there is a relay behind the drivers side kick panel, near the floor, or right above the driver kick panel by the e-brake assy. there is a small gauge black wire going into it, cut this wire and put it to ground. this is the control ground from the computer for the starter relay. this should take care of your problem.

you can get a chilton book from autozone and it has the wiring diag showing you what im talking about if you need a reference.

yes. for the starter. the injector power control runs through the pass key module also.

dont quote me on this! but i thought i was told that if you just jump the two wires that go to the pass key in the column togther, it runs?

Re: 90' Iroc Vats

The VATS module actually generates a 30 hz signal to the ECM when the correct key is inserted (each VATS is looking for a specific resistance in the key). It also provides "ground" for the coil of the starter relay.

You can build a circuit using a 555 timer (there are schematics on the internet, which is what I used to build mine) to provide the 30 hz signal to the ECM in place of the VATS module.

IF THE ECM DOES NOT SEE THE 30HZ SQUARE WAVE EVEN WITH A CORRECT KEY IN THE IGNITION IM GUESSING THE ECM SHUTS DOWN FOR AT LEAST 5 -15 MIN AT LEAST...A BAD VAT MODULE CAN SHUT THE DOWN THE ENTIRE OPERATION. NO HOTWIRE IS POSSIBLE WITHOUT A SQUAREWAVE GENERATOR ??

Re: 90' Iroc Vats

take a meter to your key to determin the resistence... go to radio shack and get a resistor with the same value... splice this in where the VATS plugs in... if you do it right you can make a pig tail out of it and can remove it for added security

or you can close the circuit at the relay down by the kick panel and have someone remove VATS from the chip...

I had a 1990 Formula that was giving me hell with this and I did all 3. No more problems...
