Will I pass the visual check?
I have this filter instead of the stock airbox. Do I have to remove it before I smog next year?
It would depend on the person doing the visual, but considering the consequences they could face for "overlooking" something like that I would say you would probably want to have the stock airbox, I think its legal to have an open element if its part of a CARB legal intake setup, but if its custom then I think its illegal.
I don't remember, is there anything going to the airbox? If you have any smog pieces that tie into the airbox, then your open element would be illegal. If there are no smog parts going to the airbox, you are probably good to go.

The IAT sensor is still there, its just not screwed in anywhere special. If you look its just hangin there. Still works tho, measures the air temp thats being sucked in.

Just put the stock stuff on for SMOG. That's what I did. Doesn't take long to convert it back. It's only for the check and the check is every two years so it's not much hassle to go stock for a day. With me, I just want to get in get out so I make it as less complicating as I can.

If you don't have the stock air intake box, get one. Any smog sensors left hanging in the breeze instead of being secured in the stock location will cause you to fail visual. If the smog tech doesn't know you personally, he has to fail you because you might be an Air Resources Board investigator trying to catch him not doing his job.
