Is your thirdgen a daily driver?

I recently read a post here about an upcoming event that had turned into a bit of a squabble. One member of the board was complaining that they did not enjoy attending events (which reminded them of High School) where everyone sat around in parking lots and then went for a cruise. I wanted to reply to the post to remind the member that a lot of the members here actually do daily drive their Thirdgens so when we all get together we usually all like to get a chance to look over everyone's mods to their f-bodies as well as swap some stories. Then, it hit me, that in the couple years that I have known members of this board of Thirdgen.org that many had done a lot of modfications to their F-Bodies, so I am just curious how many still drive their Thirdgens daily?

good point made! Although I'm new here( new= reg. last sept.) I think a good deal of people on here do drive their f-bod's daily. At least thats the impression that comes across.

Mine is a 2nd car and a weekend driver. I would call it a street machine with an occaisional trip to the drag strip to see what it will do. That is one of the reasons for sticking with a smaller cam in the ZZ4. Allen

I wish it wasn't a daily driver (in otherwords have time and funds to mod it). hopefully last winter was the last winter this car will see as I may be getting a beater (my dads old honda). if I get it, I'm thinking of r**ing it out, but in such a way that it makes fun of the real r*cers. what that has to do with anything I don't know but there you go.

i siwtch off, between my sable and the 90. the 89 is like once every 3 weeks lol.

If im going to go surf, ill take the sable, work ill usually take the 90 cus its only 2.5 miles away.

Shopping is either or, if its nice out, the 90, if its raining etc the sable. Or if its anywhere more then ten or so miles one way....the sable. Ive managed to log about 1500 miles on the 90 in about 1.75 years this way now, but i still manage to drive it once every 2-3 days though.

Umm.. Define daily driver. Before the motor blew I had the choice to drive it daily. But I'm very lucky to have a few choices. During the spring/summer/fall if I can ride I do. Especially with the cost of gas now. I would consider it a daily driver even though I drove it only a few times a month. Out of choice, not b/c of the build of the car.

Mine is definately a weekend cruiser. I have a 94 Saturn coupe for my daily commute, and I like the 27-29 mpg I get with it. The TA is going to be built as a weekend "pro tourer." It is pretty much done mechanically. It has plenty of power to not be embarrasing on the street, but should be as reliable as any stock sbc. I'm working on cosmetics now. I'm going to install my new stereo and speakers, reglue the upholstery around the console, and put the interior back together.

My Camaro is my daily driver.
On weekends, I usually switch off between my Lambo and Ferrari.

At night, my car *is* a ferrari!
Since I bought it in Oct. 2001, I've put 65,000 miles on it. I think if it were to sit still for more than a couple days it would sieze up and die.
How far away is the moon?

Mine's NOT a daily driver; I use a corolla. However when I get some extra cash every now and then, all too often I find myself pouring that money into my daily driver just to keep it running. They just love breaking down when you have a fat wallet. This is why I haven't done anything to my thridgen since I got it over a year ago.... until now.

Now that my Trans Am's in the shop 'til july, I hope my corolla doesn't decide to poop out on me.

Yea, my bad. Sorry Kev!! Back on topic, after the rebuild, yes I will still consider my car to be daily drivable and would not hesitate to take it on long trips... say out to Cali for some sun 'n fun!!

8T8 was the guy complaining about the driving or about the actual event? If you get some good guys together, I can't see it as bad, that's how we learned before the mainstreaming of the internet.

Thanks Don!
I wasn't sure if he had meant everyone not ( or no longer) from SoCal.
Thought I would ask.
"Hi" back!
So, you ever make any trips out to Laughlin?
Feel free to email us or stop by!
The weather here has ben fantastic! I hardly ever wear a shirt anymore! Ha! I'm also wearing out all my shorts!
It still gets into the 50s at night here, and from the mid 70s to the mid 90s so far!
I miss a few things, but I gotta say, we have no traffic here! It is pretty peaceful too! I love it!
I still hit SoCal every other month or so, as the whole family still lives out there! But I swear, my family seems to spend more time out here lately, than back there!

Anyone planning on going to SEMA this year? We'll be there again this year too!

Have a good one,

George

Another daily driver here, though, I try to avoid taking it the longer distances (except to Dons). Driven approx. 250 miles/week with over 220K on the car. (odometer only shows 140k- rollback )

I really couldn't imagine driving mine as a "daily driver".

With all the nitwit ricers and stressed-out commuters these days, all it takes is one retard in a hurry to spoil countless hours and money invested into getting a car restored to factory mint cond smashed in a careless second.

I guess what really concerns me is that the "bluebook" value of our cars is so freaking low. Get in one fender bender that tweaks the front end bad enough and you got yourself a "salvage-title" car. I've seen so many 3rd gens at the yards with just minimal damage being parted out as total losses.

Also, the roads around here are in pretty bad shape. You got pot holes, ruts, mis-aligned steel plates layed down by road crews, construction zones with gravel and wet asphalt on them just ready to wreak some havoc on a nice old 3rd gen.LOL!

I hear ya on that. I encounter this stuff everyday to and from work. Try hitting it with a lowered 3rd gen that has stiff suspension. :nono:

Unless things have changed big time since I lived back there 30 years ago, the people in upstate N.Y. & Western Pennsy would drool over our roads. They have potholes back there that will swallow a third gen whole. The only thing worse are some of the sink holes that develop in Florida!

You guys need to drive around in wilmington. Unless youre driving a hummer, you can kiss the entire undercarriage of your car goodbye.

I've driven all over So Cal. I think the worst street is Alameda St. from Florence North, where the RR tracks run through the middle of the street. Even Alameda St. isn't as bad as the East Coast.
