I learned tonight more about the Summit event.. Gene was explaining Bracket Racing.. I don't think this would be a learning experience for me my 1st time out.. Plus my car would be no good I would be spinning so much.. Im considering going to palmdale.. Just not sure about it being so far and drag racing.. Gene is planning to go.. That be cool.. I guess he was not impressed with the Cts-V so I wonder is he finnaly going to run the Iroc..

I have been at the LACR in Palmdale a couple of times, I liked the fact that it was not too crowded. It is a good idea to go in two cars in case one breaks. I'm thinking on going again to get some timeslips, but mabe in a couple of wheeks.

you're never going out to race are you? no one said you have to go out and prove something the 1st time down the track.. track time is track time.. you can do whatever you want with it.. your 1st runs are going to suck anyways.. so who cares? you're guaranteed 3 races... so use those, get used to it.. then go out again.. you're not going to be pro the 1st time out.. you have to learn sometime.. and if you keep wiggling your way out each time you say you're going to be there, then you're never ever going to go..
go have fun, stop worrying about it, its not a job.. its for FUN..

I'm going to have to agree here too Branden. You need to start getting some seat time.
I grabbed this from the Solo2 Web site, but I think it applies to drag racing also.
---------------------------------------
Good driving “basics” are worth their weight in gold. Concentrating on YOU as the driver and NOT the vehicle or its modifications, is most important early on.
Many novices in the first year or two of competition make the common mistake of over-prepping their car, now that’s not to say some mods wouldn’t help, BUT again we want to concentrate on the driver, not the car. You can easily out class your driving abilities with TOO many vehicle modifications; learn how to drive what you have first !
---------------------------------------
Get that thing to the track!

Good luck Don. Let us know how it went. Yep, Vincent needs to keep and eye out for those gaining on him and nipping at his heels. Hehehehe.
As far as the Cadillac goes he just needs some suspension mods and a little tuning. He will have a solid 13 second car. Allen

I can understand exactly what everyone has said.. Every since I gained little interest in drag racing looking to get my first race, I been very particular if I'm going to actually run the car.. So say if something is night right and I don't feel comfortable.. I pretty much stay on the safe side and work through things.. I know this is one thing over my shoulders and I have to get it done sometime..

You don't have to brkt. race ....it's available if you want to, I'm just going to make time trials.
If you enter the brkts. and win the first round....cool you get 5 runs.

Air density altitude was like 3000+ strong head wind blowing.
I did make some progress on my tuning though, no more spark retard in 4th gear.
Managed a best of 13.03 @ 105.21
Most people were off about 3 tenths so that's about right with 3000+
My guage was reading 89 for those of you that know what that means.
Traction was limited at best, the starting line was all tore up (loose rubber).
All and all it was ok since I made progress
oh yeah, I had a -.005 (.4995) light, just can't keep from red lighting Ha Ha! (damn slow tree)
Sure beats running the SL series tho.

Wow that is bad air. Traction is definitely the problem at Fontana. I think you will be well into the 12's with good air and traction.
I noticed from last weeks runs that my 1/8 mile times are up. Ran a 85.64 and 8.065. However it looks like I'm still dying on the vine at higher rpms in third gear. Gotta get that fuel starvation problem fixed.

I was there with Kevin in the stands when Don clicked off the 13.03 against the wind. There was a good bit of head wind all weekend out there. This aftermnoon it really picked up by about 4pm.

What were the conditions like besides the weather and the tration. Like, was it fun? Did you win anything? And were there a lot more domestic cars?
I'd like to try bracket racing sometime. Competing sounds fun. But judging from the last time out, I still need a lot of work on my R/T's and especially to launch harder.

The racing conditions were the exact opposite of Street Legal night. I think I counted 5 ricers in the whole place. Everything else was a "real" race car. And there were cars running 8's and 9's. He got two practice runs and a first round run. If it wasnt for all the junior dragsters (dont they have their own racing day?) he could have got another practice run.
