Calif does it backwards again
Calif Dept of Transportation has earmarked $5 millon to combat street racing.
Instead of spending the money to furnish racing venues, the money is to be used by cities to train officers to recognize speed equipment and catch racers

1) They can't even go over the speed limit
2) The officer doesn't want to bother pulling them over
Now try to get past a cop with a 97 Anniversary Edition SS (with a loudmouth) and not get hassled all the time

It's like the "War on Drugs" — don't do anything about the cause when you can get more money trying to fight the symptom.

Great...
I'm an 18 year old kid with an "Arrest-Me Red" v8 muscle car. That will win me points with the cops.
My friend got pulled over in his '77 Camaro. After fifteen minutes, the cop finally let him go. The reason? "You have a dirty windsheild, and that can help create glare and unsafe driving condition. Get it washed."
Cops in Santa Clarita complain they have nothing to do...but they don't do anything!! Burbank isn't much better, but atleast the cops up here aren't total ***holes. Unless you're walking to the store past 11:00pm.
I <3 California. [/sarcasm]

Did you guys read this article
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/05/576.asp
What really burns me is that you have to pay $35 just to prove that you are innocent.

You'll be real happy to read this then:

IIRC they used to allow people like contractors 60 days, but now you have like 3. Basically if you work here they want your money.

"CHEATERS" - Californians Help Eliminate All The Evasive Registration Scofflaws
F*ck anybody who would "use this link to report vehicles you believe belong to California residents but are not properly registered."

Why should California lose out on money? Cars owned by full-time California residents should be registered in California. You're using our streets, you should help pay for them.

If the governments only interest was not money, I would agree with you... however they dont really care about anything but how many dollars they are collecting from people while they turn around and throw it away or steal it.
Sorry if I dont feel sorry they are getting screwed back.

They can in fact go screw themselves. Dave happens to "lawfully" own a residence and reside in Utah and visited his 2nd home here in Calif. Nothing "unlawful about owning a primary residence in another state and having that as you primary choice to recieve your mailing address for legalities.

Cali doesnt care about all that, though. I was actually looking for the code (didnt find it) but basically if you are here and you have a vehicle, stay for more than x number of days (its very short, like probably 20 from what I read so far) then you have to register the vehicle here. They dont care about residency, time of residency elsewhere, etc. Its all to make a buck.

Somewhere in the registration fine print they ask where the vehicle is GARAGED, they could care less where you live, its where the vehicle lives.

Chris, What you're referring to is how long after moving to CA you have to get the car registered here. In this case his primary residence is in another State. So long as he spends more time in that State than CA it is his primary residence. An example would be the snowbirds that come here from the Northern States and Canada. They stay here months, yet aren't required to register their vehicle in CA. My Grandparents did this for many years when they were alive. They always made sure to spend one more day in AZ than they did in CA (or later WA ) so they could legitamately claim AZ as their primary residence. Think abut it, the States of CA and WA (or other state) wouldn't require them to re-register their vehicles twice a year.

In 1989 when Fedex bought out Flying Tigers, Many people were given the choice of moving to Tennessee or finding other jobs. It didnt take long for the word to get back here about how little the registration was/ no smog/ etc. So a mass movement to register everything in Memphis took off using other peoples addresses. Everything was just fine untill somebody got pulled over for what ever. It only took L.A.P.D. three days and everybody leaving the airport with Tennessee plates got stopped. I dont remember what it cost then, But you know the price didnt go down. Not to mention that they included the cost of not registering on time in California.
Now I'm not saying anybodys going to get caught, But all it takes is being observed coming or going enough times to to get stopped and if your story does not ring .... you know the rest. Also not having a Drivers License from the State the car is Registered in usually puts pen to to paper ....If you get my drift.

Almost everything is illegal in some sense.
"If a cop wants to write you a ticket he can find something." This is a quote from a CHP at driving school. Sometime ask a cop to show you the vehicle code. The last one I saw was about 5x8 and 2 inches thick with REALLY small print.
Even sand pits in a windshield is illegal. Turn signals have to blink X number of time per min.
Right now, hasseling racers is politically correct. This will go on for awhile then it will die out and something else will raise its ugly head.
And with the increase in traffic fines issuing tickets is VERY VERY lucratrive to the local agencies.
Cops want you to break laws. If no one broke a traffic law the police forces would be cut by 90%. Cops justify their existance by issunig tickets. It makes them look good and fills the govt coffers.
Catching criminals isn't lucratrive and the only reason they do it is to make the public think they do something besides write tickets.
Most criminals are caught by mistake, or get busted for something minor and, if unlucky, someone notices that they are wanted for something else before they get released.

California has made 140% more money since 2001 on property taxes alone.. since the refinance boom hit in october of that year.. house prices go up.. so do prop taxes.. and they make a KILLING on new houses alone.. let alone existing houses.. example.. a $500,000 new home in 2001 would have property taxes based on .9% of the value.. making that $4,500 a year in prop taxes.. as of today.. CA charges 1.52%, so in today's market, a new home $500k value would pay $7,600..
if they are after money.. blame the liberals and special interest groups who syphon money away from this state daily.
back to the topic..
so when is this crack down going to begin? are they still demolishing cars for street racing?
