I'm looking for LS1 brakes for my 3rd gen. I figured a Corvette message board or forum would be a good place to look.
Anybody know any good ones? Thx.

Ben, you might be better off looking for a wrecked 4th gen. The Vette is almost 1000#s lighter than our cars. I was at a speed shop in La Habra a while back. A guy had brought in a Chevy 1/2 ton truck for brakes not very good. He had swapped Vette brakes into his truck. The verdict was he needed to get rid of the Vette brakes and get something designed to stop a vehicle as heavy as his truck. You put brakes off of a 3000# car on a 4000# car and they may not be up to the job.

Physics say a 13" brake system is more effective than a 10.5" no matter how heavy the car is.
Is it possible the guy didn't do the swap right? Unless his old rotors were thicker or he was using a massive drum system (they have different leverage properties), the vette brakes should have been an improvement.
BTW a vette does weigh around 3000# and my car should be around 3400 from what I'm told. I'm planning on making my car lighter also. Thx for the links btw. Any others?

All Vettes weigh in at about 3400 - 3600 lb range based on year. The heaviest of Vettes ever being the '82 pacecar edition Corvette weighing in at about 3850.
Everyone just thinks they are light because the bodies are fiberglass, but the fame is beefed up for rigidity and and puts the weight right back just lower center of gravity.

A 1/2 ton truck doesn't weigh anywhere near 6000lbs.
My 1 ton chevy van with a 4x4x6ft wood box in the back full of survey gear, 2-180 lb men and 10gal gas on the scale at Vons was 6150lbs.
My guess is a 1/2 ton weights about 4k unladen.

By the time you put the fluids in the car and a little gas in the tank (1/2 tank to be fair since this is how cars drive around daily on average weight, not including the driver) the C5's "coupes"weight in at 3300 lbs, the c4's "coupes" are at 3400. They go up from there.
Any car is 100lbs lighter without fluids (coolant, oil, washer fluid, tranny fluid, etc.. and gas in it) The technical specs of a C5 coupe is 3218lbs dry.
EDIT: I am seeing two different sources I have that are labeling the C5 weights both at 3218lb, but one lists *dry weight* and the other lists *curb weight* so I do not know which is accurate. Curb weight is suppose to symbolize minimal amounts of fuel, oil and other fluids needed to operate the vehicle.
EDIT 2: Did some more curious checking around and found three confirmed sources that put the *curb weight* of the C5's at 3246lbs. Thats with minimal fuel in the tank, gas is 8lbs per gallon. So the C5's are around 3300 with a full tank and nothing else in the car (no add-on options)
