Just had the Z28 repainted black down at cesar's shop in mexico.. they didn't do a very good job wetsanding/buffing it at all . Where should i go to have it resanded/buffed?? I know Mike-In-Orange does good detail work so would you be up for it? Anyone know any shops?

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately my computer is having problems.. im logged in on a buddy's computer.. so for now, no pics

It's got its fair share of orange peel and swirl marks Seems like every local body shop I call says "No we don't do anything like that." I'm taking it to a shop down the street from me today for an estimate we'll see how that goes.

Any input/advice is welcome.

Try the detailing shops.
and/or high end wash/detail places.

No detail shop will do what you want. To re-sand means that they would have sand the clear coat (if you had it cleared) or the paint. There is the unknown factor of the paint's thickness. If the coat is thin, a re-sand job would go right thru it. Even if they could sand it, if it got thin from the sanding, it could burn when buffed. Black is very hard to get swirls out of. A perfect black paint job would be big $$$$.

I found out the hard way that when you have a black car and you want it to look like you actually wash/waxed it you need to do more than use elbow grease. Looking like this is to wash and wax everytime I wash her, and using my craftman buffer to get the swrils out, of course once some water gets in the mix say from under the hood blisters

So I would recommend maybe trying to clay bar the car a couple times yourself, and then waxing and polishing it, always making sure to use a good buffing pad and a buffer for the removal of the wax and polish

Well I got an estimate for a wetsand/buff- $400. I guess I don't have a choice . If worse comes to worse I'll fork out the dough and have her redone here in the states.

I'm just wondering why (if you did) would you except it that way and pay for it.
Something doesn't seem right, he always took good care of us down there.

Well unfortunately the way the car was sitting when I picked it up and the fact the sun wasnt shining on it yet didn't do justice for how it really looked.

I'm sure a good buff will take care of it. Don't get me wrong it looks much better than it did before...just direct sunlight in some areas it doesnt look how new paint should look. It has a "haze" in it that really takes away from the depth of it. The orange peel is actually minor and not too big of an issue more than the haze is. Nonetheless it'll be fixed in a couple weeks.

Thanks guys..

Sounds like it will come out just fine. Maybe a little more money than you thought but still much less than it could have been. You will have to bring the car to the club picnic so we can check it out.

Going by the pictures it looks very good. In fact it looks better than Ken's paint job.

Thats not saying much...if the car is more than 25% covered in paint, its better than mine.

Thanks for the compliment, but it looks like you've got it pretty well covered now (I just stumbled on this thread). Honestly, I would not have wanted to tackle a wet sand/buff job on your car. From the sounds of it though, my guess is that they did a really lousy job buffing it and never took that step down to a final, finer polish and pad. If you buff with more aggressive polishes and pads you will leave some hazing behind, even with a Porter Cable, which is why you need to go really fine at the end. I'll bet they just quit before it was truly finished. From the looks in those pictures on that other thread it came out pretty darn nice!!

A friend of mine had a hack painter repaint the hood on her car and he did the most horrific job buffing it after painting. She brought it to me to "finish" the job the painter claimed was the completed project. The picture below is the hood after I'd buffed out one side. Shocking what some people consider a finished project, isn't it?

Yea the pics in that link are before any wetsanding..just a little polish work. A buddy and I just finished wetsanding the hell out of it last night.. just need to finish buffing and it will look twice as good. You wouldn't believe how much orange peel we got rid of.
