crankshaft help
Ok I am trying to bolt the crankshaft pulley into place so i was having problems fitting the washer inside the notch or whatever its called I'll attach a picture with an arrow pointing at what i'm talking about. Sorry i dont know what i would call it but to me it looks like the washer would have to slide into that in order for the pulley to get bolted down. My problem is that it seems that the washer is a little too big to fit in there. Should i force it in and try to hammer it down or do i just have the wrong washer? I have the original one that came with the engine atleast i think i do and i also have one i pulled from another car at the junk yard a few years back. I went to autozone and bought one also from that section where they have all the chrome parts and its supposed to fit a small block chevy. So what do you think do I foce it in or do i need a different washer?

Re: crankshaft help
I wouldn't be worried about the washer fitting in where it used to sit. I would be careful that the new bolt is not too long and bottoming out in the crank. If you install the pulley using a longer bolt you could possibly damage the threads in the end of the crank and the pulley will not be on all the way.

Re: crankshaft help
i spoke to a buddy of mine and he told me that notch is there because the harmonic balancer isn't installed right. So he told me to remove the pulley and go rent a harmonic balancer installer tool and try to get that in right and that should elliminate that notch and it should bolt down in place

Re: crankshaft help
The washer doesnt fit down into where the crank is, it fits in that slightly recessed area of the pulley itself. If its in there, its fine. I cant remember how far back the crank is from the balancer face but IIRC its not flush when installed.

Re: crankshaft help
^^ yeah after i got out of work i dropped by autozone and rented a harmonic balancer installer and a puller. Lets just say i just bought the installer :lol It didn't come with instructions so i tried to use it and the adapter bolt that comes with it for the thread i needed ended up breaking and is stuck in the crankshaft :lol at this rate i'll never get this car started. so now i have to damn i forgot what thats called but you drill a hole into the screw and try to screw that out. But on the plus side I was able to successfully remove the harmonic balancer to which seemed to be installed fine so now i'm stuck again :hammer heres a few pix

Re: crankshaft help
Ok i was able to get the broken piece out of there using a bolt extractor and also got the harmonic balancer in and the pulley was able to aline right with the pulley on water pump and alternator. One of my friends came over that works on race cars and he said thats how its supposed to be installed. So now i'm stuck at where i started. He said I need a bolt about an inch longer then the standard harmonic balancer bolt since this one isn't long enough to bolt it in place. Any ideas on why this is so and why the standard gm small block bolt isn't long enough? I'm sure my engine isn't the only of its kind so why don't they offer a longer bolt for a gm small block 350? Well atleast not that I know of

so now i just need to change the oil, wire the electric fan, and install the starter. Its sat for two years so hopefully it doesn't give me much trouble to get it running oh and after i get it running i want to get silicone hoses for the radiator and i need to tow it to get my exhaust welded on I have a complete exhaust system from the cat 3" piping and flowmaster that f1ls1 gave me from a car he parted out so hopefully soon i'll be

Re: crankshaft help
Got the car started today.
I just can't belive it was so easy. I don't know weather to be mad or glad
because the car sat for two damn years because The mechanic told me the thread for the crank was stripped and I just so happened to mention it to a buddy and he told me there's no way it can be stripped so i bought a longer bold mounted the starter and the damn car started right up. It hesitated a lil but i gave it a little gas and it started right up
. Oh man i can't belive it. So now i need a Y pipe which i am going to order first thing monday morning and as soon as it gets here i'm towing the car to the muflfler shop to get the y mounted aswell as the 3 inch piping and flowmaster welded up. thanx for the help

Re: crankshaft help
Bought a new battery for my z28 took it down to the muffler shop to get y pipe and exhaust put on. The guy is also going to tune my carb and make sure the car is running right so it won't explode while i'm driving it
so i should be out driving it soon. I also ordered a set of z28 rims i saw here on the forsale section from what i understand they are from a 90-92 z28 in a 16"rim here's a pic of them anyone know exactly what kind of camaro these are from. I figured for 200 dollars and they have almost new tires y not i need tires anyway.
