yup that's why Don been looking for a BW ring and pinion set because all aftermarket gear sets are noisy and most likely are made by the same manufacture

Re: I'm elated about....

Are you going to leave the 9 bolt in, or is it a temporary fix until you get that 12 bolt done? How close are you on your 12 bolt?

Congrats Don!

If you can beef up the 9-bolt to hold the power, it is the better option. Going to 12 bolts or Ford 9" will be stronger, but there is always a performance penalty to be paid to have to move the extra weight.

...so, that means more HP is on the way, as if that were a surprise to anyone who knows Don.

Hey Don, Are Motive Gears any good? I was thinking on buying a set for my 9 bolt?

So far no one has found any gears for the 9 bolt that are quiet except for the original factory gears. As was mentioned in a previous post in this thread, all of the aftermarket gear sets seem to be made by the same company and then packaged in different company's boxes. So far no one has found a quiet set of after marklet gears.

That's right, I got the last set from Motive. They made noise.

Re: I'm elated about....

That 9-bolt, the "Aussie" piece, is that the similar or the same as the late model GTO runs? I heard that it was. Does anyone know why the gears don't fit our 9-bolts from those?

I'm asking because at least you can buy those gears from GM...

The GTO uses an IRS setup, that's all I know. I would think that makes the differential different.

I think it depends entirely on how the differential is set up. It could be that the the housing changed to fit a grease seal at the sides of the banjo with the same spline as our cars. Then it would use short stub shafts to the inside u joints. That is such a sensible way to do it that I'm sure GM modified everything just to make things difficult for us and to do one more thing to try to force us to trade in our cars on what ever new piece of junk they want to sell us!

Re: I'm elated about....

I have had my Precision gear 3:70 's in my Camaro for quite a few years now, never has the rear end made any noise....? I am guessing there to be roughly 5000 miles on them and a good 100 passes down the 1320, still no noise....I don't remember where I bought them from, I think it was Randy's ring and pinion, but I am not positive on that, that was a long time ago.
