Didnt read anything about this, but on the 5 south about 10am there was a CHP with a radar gun on a island between a off and on ramp in the Norwalk area, two vehicles were stopped a mile or so south. Then in Anaheim another CHP had a vehicle pulled over.
Chris saw the same thing on the 5 south in Irvine near Culver drive.
Time to fire up the radar/lidar detectors.

Well what I have seen happening for at least 8 months now, randomly mind you, is when I pull on the freeway there would be a white van pulled off on the side of the shoulder and a tri pod setup with a device pointed towards the rear of vehicles as they drive by it. I have a feeling they where measuring emissions because the device has a large video camera style body which is not like the radars you see mounted on the freeway. It also has wires running into the van between the rear doors. I'm not sure how accurate they could be maybe just to detect gross polluters. They didn't have any chp in the vicinity either. The van isn't marked and I've seen them in Fountain Valley on the Brookhurst southbound on-ramp as well as in the City of Commerce on the 710 (can't remember where exactly) and in Hawaiian Gardens on the 605. I do allot of driving because of my job and these vans seem to be around. Not so consistent but enough to where it grabbed my attention.
Has anyone else seen this as well??

what do you mean they're worthless? i had heard about something similar but with a cop around but never actually seen one. So if they're worthless then y are they trying to meassure emissions? Not doing you just wondering
everybody accelerates differently. Ever follow a asian onto the fwy. So the exhaust output is not consistant from car to car because the acceleration is different. Smog machines use 15 and 25 mph for that reason.

From what I have seen, the only time traffic ever slows to anything approaching the speed limit in So Cal is when the congestion is bad enough that you can't go faster. CHP runs traffic breaks sometimes just because that is the only way they can slow people down. They may have decided to set up speed traps to try to slow down the traffic.
No, the State needed money before, and now that they have to reimburse all the people whose safety deposit boxed were ripped off by the State it needs even more money.
And with more and more people giving up tabacco products they need to fund "meatheads for the children measures" from the general fund.
