These are difficult to find in decent shape for Camaros, nevermind Firechickens...you're better off scoring a used LS1 4th gen stick shift console and sticking it in your car, plus it will update the look of the interior at the same time, and you'll add cup holders. They practically bolt in and go for Birds. Camaros are a different story.

Tell me about it. I found one on ebay but it has the electrically controlled side view mirror switch which my car doesnt have, I can wait tho I made mine work for now. Thanks for the info but I hate forth gen interior in third gens, I like the third gen interior, you feel like your in something special

I finally drove it yesterday, everything feels great! I put a new Centerforce clutch and pressure plate in and the clutch pedal just feels perfect. Only two things I want to do now, install my 3.73's and get me a short shifter. O and I need to do the wiring but I'm not worried about it

Yeah, I hate auto sports cars. IDK what stage it is, my brother bought the clutch for his 67 camaro project that he never finished. He bought it around 10 years ago. GL with the project, its not too hard

Cool man, good work. I did mine myself too, but I'm still not all the way done yet. My brother's gonna help me with the wiring, and he's gonna install the gears. Yeah I got bought a wrecked camaro from this guy, just after he pretty much finished rebuilding his motor and tranny(I have all the trans paper work) he wrecked it I picked up the car for 500 bucks, but he already got another RS. Which reminds me I still have to give him back his wheels

Re: 89 firebird shiftplate(manual trans)
it should be REAL simple
theres a connector thats attached to the 700r4 trans connector that should ALREADY BE THERE! its a plug that goes in the side of the trans(ill take pics to show u if u want!)..
speedos easy as well the only issue might be the neutral safety...I havent done it yet..

I just finished up the most of the wiring(myself). CAKE! Its RIDICULOUSLY EASY! Havent done the speedo yet, I cant just sit and work on it all day since I'm at work. I dont expect that will be hard either.
Dude once you rip into it you'll realize what I'm talking about, but if you do have any questions maybe I could help you.

One thing though camarocaptain. Why go thru all the effort of taking your engine out. i pull transmissions out of my camaro w/o taking the whole engine out. IMO just think it was unnecessary unless you were rebuilding the engine or putting one in.

Re: 89 firebird shiftplate(manual trans)
Its not bad at all actually just make sure you have all the parts thats the only thing that will hold you up. My dad has a shop tho so it makes it alot easier too. I think it took me like a week to do it, but I didn't work on it too hard either. I say with all the parts it could be done in a day to two.

Re: 89 firebird shiftplate(manual trans)
its actually pretty simple, it took me like a few days to do the conversion inside the car(clutch hole pedals taking the center console apart etc.) the ONLY PAIN in the butt was those damn pedals and the master cyl. bracket(the one that mounts on the fire wall) it was easier kuz there was no motor in the way (but it was still a hassle) other than that its a piece of cake.... im in need of a tourque arm bracket..its the only thing holding me back.....i have 2 jobs n i dont have a freakin day off to go to the boneyard...i gotta call in sick after payday i guess LOL!!

Here you go, Mario, I finally got it to work. This is what you're looking for, right?
The shift boot is torn, but new, stock-fitting leather boots can be purchased online from Redline Goods. You can choose from many different colors, even multiple colors, and you can choose from several other customizing options. But a stock-like, one color, non-customized boot for an '82-'92 Firebird is in the $50 range. I've bought one of these, and they're very nice.
http://www.redlinegoods.com/order.shtm
I've also had a local upholstery shop make a boot, using my stock boot as a template, and it came out nice, too. But here your color choice is limited to scrap leather that the shop has in stock. Price range was $40-$50.
I've tried a 4thgen boot, too, but it was a little too small to fit around the thirdgen boot ring(the metal frame on the underside of the shift plate that secures the boot). But if you have access to a 4thgen boot, you might give it a try and see if you can make it work.
