A newly secured grant will allow the commissioner 42,000 hours of officer overtime to do that.

As usual, another governmental stupid knee-jerk response. Speed doesn't kill - it's the factors of unsafe vehicle operation, such as tailgating, not following the flow of traffic, weaving throughout lanes, not using signals, observing common courtesy, not adjusting driving style to local conditions.
So now commuters driving faster than the posted limit become the targets even though they may be doing so safely. If the enforcement officers would focus on tailgating and other unsafe driving habits, accident rates would decline pretty dramatically, in my opinion.

They always do what is easy! It is easier to measure speed and write a ticket, than to make a judgement call on tail gating. I've seen more CHP doing speed enforcement lately, but I'm not sure it is making a dent in speed. The only freeway I drive a lot since I retired is the 605, and I would say the average speed out there is probably 75 mph. If I drive at 75, I will be passed on both sides by cars doing 90+.

Merry Christmas!

Hey I feel like being nitpicky over language today. Apparently the only solution to having speed not be a factor in a collision is if speed=0
Be careful out there everyone. You do not have to be speeding to get a speeding ticket. They may resort to 'old' school tactics of lying to give out those nice yellow pieces of paper.

"Year after year, speed is indicated as the primary collision factor in roughly one-third of the fatal and injury collisions in California."

I just came up the 405 and saw three cars pulled over. Usually none.

Been noticing a larger police presence here in New Jersey as well. Especially on the Turnpike and Parkway. I suppose this is a way to get money to close up their budget gaps.

"its 1400 dollars"
Ouch! Looks like they are using you as a revenue source to help balance the budget.

Yikes! 1400?
Did they give you a reckless driving charge along with it or something?
